Rep. Allen West (R-FL), the Tea Party favorite and one of only two African-American Republicans in Congress, closed out an address to local Republicans by solemnly invoking the name of a Confederate general, Stonewall Jackson, at a county GOPs Lincoln Day Dinner.
West spoke on Saturday to the Broward County GOP dinner, as something of a farewell address he is switching to a nearby district, after his own was redrawn in a manner that made it more Democratic. During his address, West denounced liberals and progressives for wanting to enslave Americans into dependency on government programs, such as food stamps.
At the end of the speech, West invoked the name of the famous Confederate military officer: So, as I close tonight, I want to remind you of the great farewell speech of Confederate General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson when he bid farewell to his brigade, as he was elevated by Robert E. Lee.
And he said to his brigade that they would always be first in his heart. Broward County will always be first in my heart, and I will never forget you. God bless you all, and God keep you. Thank you.

The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) held its annual fall Board of Directors meeting in Charleston, S.C. last weekend a decision the organization is likely regretting after several controversial pictures from one of the meetings sponsored events began surfacing on the internet.
One of the pictures shows S.C. Senate President Glenn McConnell - who FITS readers will recall enjoys dressing up as a Confederate General posing in his Rebel garb with a pair of African-Americans dressed in, um, antebellum attire. So this is how Republicans party?

(53,871 posts)I almost feel sorry for this guy. He's lost who he is. I mean an African American quoting 'Stonewall Jackson, he doesn't have enough sense to be ashamed for himself. Has the man lost his identity as well as his mind? He should be reminded that if he were around when 'Stonewall Jackson was alive the general would've made sure he had a fresh supply of Confederate horseshit-encrusted boots to clean, unless of course he wanted to literally lick them instead of just the figurative tonguing he's doing now.

(7,875 posts)Also this bullshit about the 'biggest tax increase in American history'... Every time someone wants rich people to pay some taxes it's the 'biggest tax increase in American history'. We're talking about letting the Bush tax cut expire, am I right Mr. West? So the top tax bracket will have to pay an extra 4%? Horrors. I'm sure you can find a way to shift that tax burden onto the working class where it belongs, can't you Mr. West? Maybe add a 1% national sales tax? Or increase the tax on alcohol and tobacco? Those would be fair taxes, wouldn't they Mr. West? Maybe you could even introduce a bold plan to have poor people receive a portion of their salary in lottery tickets. That would stimulate grown by giving a rationalization for not raising the minimum wage. Think about it Mr. West, I think this could be a winner.
