So they all dove for their tents. That must be what they are supposed to do, but I wonder how it actually can protect them.

It looks like the avalanche just rode over them.

...and also if they have any gear stowed in the tent (beacons, oxygen bottles, rations, heaters, climbing pick, etc.) it's better to be right there with it than have it a few unreachable feet away.


They also were able to get out of it relatively easy, so maybe they were in a spot that was partially protected, or just didn't get hit too bad.
