(41,177 posts)Warren are speaking the truth rather than major members of either political party. This is critical information for the young who face a world with many challenges thanks to the rise of Reagan, free market-neoliberal economics and ultraconservatism. As Sen. Sanders states and they need to know, it's not like this in Europe and the US has changed drastically in the last 50 years. In the early 1980s I completed grad school with no student debt because my parents helped and I worked 2 part time jobs to pay tuition and housing. That was just before the rise of Reaganomics.
A grandfather, the son of a farmer was able to enter the medical profession in 1920 as a dentist when college educations were affordable. He supported a family and all 4 children attended college. The reality that dental and medical school students graduate now with K250-300 in loan debt is unbelievable and illustrates just how Right, but wrong this country has moved in 40 years.
Mitt Romney told a group of people at a 2012 campaign rally that if young people wanted to start a business or go to college they could ask their parents for a loan, indicating how bad things have become and how far out of touch he and other leaders are especially concerning working families. Things have to change in the US.
