The grouper saw an opening and snapped. The lionfish spines went down and it was all over.

This might mean it's not the grouper's first encounter.

because they seemed so smart, seemed to have personalities, and hung out in the same areas for years and seemed like old friends when she went back.
This one was definitely smart.
