(8,879 posts)I mean, he's calling the system a sham. The entire system. Voting is a farce, he says. Most democrats don't say that. I agree with him to some degree, then I think what is the way out? Revolution? Who is calling for revolution. Not democrats, not at the party level anyway. I love him seriously. Sometimes my progressive leanings uncomfortably mingle with libertarian ideals. I don't know. I just really find him incredibly cynical. I do take his point on all counts, but what is the prescription for change from Mr. Carlin's perspective?

(50,983 posts)I suspect that voting has become a farce. I have personal reasons to believe this. After the 2,000 election why would anyone continue to trust the electoral process?
No, the Tea Party represents ignorance and those easily controlled through simplistic misinformation. This is quite the opposite of Carlin.
Carlin's prescription for change is greater awareness. We must first become aware of what has happened to the nation and the world. We must acknowledge the nation is now under secret (and not so secret) corporate rule. The military exists now as nothing more than a protector of corporate interests and source of profit. Democracy has become a sham, a total sham.

(473 posts)As much as I admired his work. I disagreed with his stance on voting. He was one of those people who said that voting is pointless, which unfortunately played into the agenda of ALEC.
He encouraged a generation to not get involved in civil action and, inadvertently, helped the 1% win.

(8,821 posts)If only more Americans would listen to what Carlin was telling them. Accepting his message requires one to leave behind the cozy comfort of American mythology. When the scales do fall from one's eyes, however, it is clear George Carlin was not only correct, but way ahead of his time.

Could almost hear him say "I don't care what color the slave is, there must be order"
Frankly I think Carlin let him off easy.
Wingers are so well schooled in the right words to use to cover what they really mean.

(203 posts)March on Americans, you mindless sheep, toward the fascist future your veterans once fought against and your government now fights for. Watch as corporations strip every last resource from you and the planet in support of power and greed. Say goodbye to any and all freedoms you believe that you hold dear. Enjoy the shell of your former glory of being the country that had a government the people erected that was of the people, by the people, for the people as it parishes from the earth.
