This interview was from 1997, two years before he started on The Daily Show, but quite a few years after "The John Stewart Show (which originally aired on MTV before replacing The Arsenio Hall Show). I remember watching this when it first aired on HBO before a Carlin retrospective.

Now, I only say this wasn't his "youth" because he was 35 when he did this interview. I'm 35 now, and I don't consider this my "youth".

Ahhhh....the certainty of the young!!!!

Trust me--when you hit fifty, or sixty, or more, you will regard 35 as your "youth."

Where you stand depends on where you sit!

As a musician, a lot of the older guys in the scene (60s-70s) refer to me and my crowd as "the young guys" or "the kids", which also lumps us in with the teens and twenty-somethings who have their own crowd, and we rarely find ourselves sharing a bill, let alone playing in the same clubs or playing the same style of music.

I am in the "or more" category. After age 35, I had two different professional evolutions and a second marriage ... so age 35 was, for me, a couple of lifetimes ago.

I still haven't decided what I want to be when I "grow up," but the second marriage is still enduring.

"grow up" either--past careers notwithstanding!

It's never too late to learn something new, though--that's my philosophy!

My neighbor shoveled my walkway again. I still am waiting for a plow to come through so I can get to my car and clean it. Thankfully it is not that windy here, just bitterly cold.

Stay safe~

I remember being this young way back...
Its is said by a late dear friend who was old and very wise..
You are not grown up until you are at least 35 years old...
So many of us here have now lived long enough to find this to be true...
I saw George last night on a re-run of SNL..
SNL is now 40 years old...
Where did that time go???

I think he was and still is the memories one of the most astute individuals I have ever seen, and Robin Williams could seize the moment and make you think you know they were both right in there observations.

We're watching two geniuses - one who "paved the way" and one who has pointed the way to the next level.
Just amazing............and to sit here and see it retrospectively - humbling, for sure
