I remember seeing this movie in the 1970s, and thinking the General Ripper character was hilarious. TrollBuster9090 Feb 2015 #3

It was that room where Goldfinger pitched the Fort Knox job to all the mobsters.

It was obviously a satire, and there were few, if any, people who thought that way.

Now I find his character highly disturbing, because there are apparently a LOT of people who think that way, and they've taken over control of one of the two major political parties of the United States. They're no longer considered crackpot 'Birchers.' They are in the U.S. SENATE, and the news media treats their view with legitimacy.

On a side note, it's hilarious that they chose Sterling Hayden to play that part, considering what a pot-head hippie he was. He'd make a couple of movies here and there, make just enough money to keep him in bong money for a few more years, and then retreat back to Mexico.

I have to tell you that my father took me to see this when it came out. I could not understand at the time why he was laughing so hard throughout much of the movie. Only later when I was a bit older did I get it.
I also agree that there are now too many people around who seem dangerously close to some of the characters in the movie.

We'll meet again, don't know where don't know when....

Must add that I agree with previous posts that crazy Rippar is now the norm. Pretty frightening how mainstream the crazy rhetoric has become.
