Related: About this forumThom Hartmann: Libertarian Paradise complete w/Mad Cow Disease?
Officials are saying a cow found in California with Mad Cow disease is just an isolated incident - and nothing to worry about. But if some in government had their way - this wouldn't be just one incident - it would be an epidemic - killing thousands of Americans. I'll tell you why in tonight's Daily Take.

(11,087 posts)2. But CEOs of agribusiness corporations would never lie to us,
or withhold information from us about unsafe food. That would be unprofitable! Unless they thought they could get away with it.
Or if they've heard of the principal of economic optimization and the law of diminishing returns. (These say that at some point, the additional costs of increasing safety would exceed the costs of settling lawsuits. At that point, a purely economic evaluation of the situation would dictate that they should go ahead and let a few customers die, and accept the cost of legal maneuvers to avoid blame or sometimes pay out settlements (with non-disclosure clauses), rather than pay for more stringent safety procedures.)
