I do not like nuclear power much. However, the science is what the science is.

1. Pooling plutonium cannot explode like at Nagasaki. That takes rapid assembly which does not happen in a nuclear reactor meltdown, and which any undergraduate physics student could explain. As is common with him, Thom Hartmann and his guest plays an Ace when they hold a deuce.

2. The Fermi meltdown was a very bad thing. It was probably amongst the first commercial fast breeder reactors on the planet, putatively making more fuel than it consumed. A small flaw resulted in a big fucking faux pas, as is the case when one does these things. I grew up in Detroit and lived there for nearly 40 years. And yes, I read the book Hartmann and his guest cites. "We Almost Lost Detroit"

3. The argument that the new reactor at Fermi will be just like those at Fukushima Daiichi is utter rubbish. Plus, even if that were true -- which it isn't -- the Lake Erie shore is subject to neither earthquakes nor tsunamis. Plus, nuclear reactor technology has advanced way beyond Fukushima Daiichi. To claim otherwise is just making shit up to fear monger.

Regardless, I am against more nuclear power. But I also think that if one is to take that position one should not make shit up about it. That's why I do not like Thom Hartmann very much.

Fox makes shit up ..Thom exposes lies and is the most truthful commentator of the planet. If he is wrong unlike Fox he will correct himself if people contact him and prove otherwise. And unlike Fox ,Limbaugh, ect, who are impossible (ON PURPOSE) to contact to correct. It is very easy to email Thom and he will email back.

Like within this clip.

Like everything, one must take claims with some skepticism. And this clip is pretty much utter rubbish. Thom's guest is making shit up, and Thom is a party to that.

I know all about the Fermi accident because I was studying physics at Argonne National Laboratory just after the time it happened. Even then, the DOE was painting a different picture than what happened. But no credible physicist was claiming that a Nagasaki could happen from a meltdown.

That's why I am not a big Thom Hartmann fan. He makes shit up, or is party to the same. The OP is nothing but fear mongering. There are plenty of arguments against nuclear power without making shit up.

you get what you want nine times out of ten. The BP oil spill is the same, they have bought off the media (all those BP ads and U.S. Olympic team sponsorship), the government (Coast Guard sprayed the Corexit for BP to sink the oil out of sight), the Plaintiff Steering Committee (PSC) who represents all victims will get $660,000,000 from BP for agreeing to their one-sided Class Action Settlement, but only if the settlement is not overturned and goes to completion while 80% of victims get denied. Big money will do that! Watch Ed Schultz next week for a series of stories on the BP spill/litigation, many of my clients will be on it.
These major corporations currently rigged EVERYTHING to their favor with money to burn, while they poison our world!
