Related: About this forumLIAR: Bill O'Reilly: "I tell you what, I've been in combat. I've seen it. I've been close to it.
Back in 2006, O'Reilly took an extended book promotion tour to Kuwait where he visited with soldiers and signed copies of his book. Reports at the time described how "servicemembers asked O'Reilly about his own tour of duty in Kuwait during Desert Storm." That might have been an interesting story except for the fact that O'Reilly never did a tour of duty in Kuwait during Desert Storm, or anywhere else since he never served in the military at all.
More recently, O'Reilly told his radio listeners about how he would have coaxed information out of an enemy soldier based on his personal experiences in combat (video below):
"I tell you what, I've been in combat. I've seen it. I've been close to it. And if my unit is in danger and I got a captured guy and the guy knows where the enemy is and I'm looking him in the eye, the guy better tell me. That's all I'm gonna tell you. If it's life or death, he's going first."
As noted above, and contrary to his statement, O'Reilly has never been in combat. Consequently, he has never commanded a unit or had to contemplate how he would deal with an enemy prisoner. His pretend bluster and machismo is all just a bunch of fantasizing of himself as a hero. So how is that any different than the offenses for which Williams is being pilloried?

(15,238 posts)I suspect they may be reserving this tactic for Hillary Clinton on an old Kosovo story. In a brief flipping on the radio dial I heard Hannity bring it up I did not stay long enough to listen much. By the way Hannity was plugging Sherry's Berry's I will never buy anything from them. Another supporter of hate radio.

Seems Bills braggadocio prompted him to lie about winning not one but two Peabody awards. Not only did he not win any, the show on which he claims to have been on that received those awards won a different, Polk, award after he left the show, Inside Edition. Maybe they were given the award for getting rid of him. Distortions and lies are the life blood of some insecure people and are classic iconic emblems of the Fox (alleged) news program. Actually when you think about it, there is nothing surprising here at all.

(8,821 posts)They all do it eventually. It's a process of the single point-of-view universe they live in. Their lies echo back to them constantly, with no contradictory input, until they don't even remember their lies were lies to begin with.

(7,875 posts)BTW- That brushoff at the end, where Billo tells the caller he's a loser, who could never come close to anything Billo has done? Oh, really? You think there's just a chance the caller was ex-military?

(11,589 posts)The standards for Fox are pathetic.
I think williams is doing the right thing by stepping away from the desk for a while as he has recognized that he is the story and it is inappropriate.
Fox is never EVER held for accountability.
and yet, that network seems to set the talking points. They hypocrisy is stunning.
