I've been talking about how all of these taxpayer-funded stadiums have been a microcosm of misplaced priorities in this country. Taxpayers will shell out hundreds of millions of dollars for a stadium used by billionaires employing millionaires. Ticket and concession prices at these places are nothing short of ridiculous.

If these arenas are really assets to the cities, then why don't these owners foot the bill for construction themselves?

I'll tell you why.

These new football stadiums cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and how many days are they used during a year? You have only 8 regular season games, a couple of preseason games, and if the team is good, maybe one or two postseason games. That's it! Maybe 12 days out of a 365 day year.

Oh, it may host a weekend of state football playoffs and a couple of concerts, but that's it. At most, these places may be used around 20 days out of the year!

Thom nailed it when he said it's another example of the 1%ers privatizing the gain and subsidizing the losses.

The late Art Modell, former owner of the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, said it best about NFL owners: A bunch of card-carrying Republicans practicing socialism.

Here's a line from North Dallas Forty (and if you haven't seen this movie or better yet, read the book, you really should).

It's about American corporate life, relationships and THEN, American football. Peter Gent's message was long ago, and the fictitious team he was talking about was strangely close to the Dallas Cowboys, and all that was corporate cronyism.

"The players are HERE in the board room, not on the field, Phil"…
