Ad against North Carolina’s Amendment One

LGBT and heterosexual parents have joined forces in North Carolina to launch a high-profile advertisement campaign against so-called Amendment One, which proposes to outlaw all recognition of same-sex relationships in the state.

Although May 8 is the official date for voting, early voters have already begun sending in their completed ballot papers.

The television campaign, which has been launched with a series of editorials in local newspapers, make it clear that the amendment also affects all unmarried straight couples, by taking away their health insurance, and by negating the protection orders for victims of domestic abuse. But, the law mainly targets LGBT couples, depriving them of all legal recognition including custody, healthcare, benefits, even the terms of their will.

The campaign against this amendment is being orchestrated by the Coalition to Protect North Carolina Families, an alliance which has since uploaded more than 100 videos to their YouTube account, one of which is the campaign video highlighted above.
