It's not often I see people so vile I'd love to give them a good kick...

Like "minister" Steven Anderson.
But I'd be willing to bet money sometime soon this guy will be caught in a sex and/or money scandal.
Probably picking up "Rentboys" like George Rekers was.
Or worse.

I came to the conclusion that no "Almighty God" would let this kind of vomit live while allowing the killing of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, etc.

I mention these recent events only because the atrocities I witnessed as a youth are missing from the record.

He asked a few of the right questions, but he was working from a list.

There are people out there who know a lot more about Leviticus and have other interpretations of that verse. Even Jewish scholars aren't out to kill homosexuals. And there was Jesus' admonition to give up on the old Law-- Christians don't keep kosher, wear clothes of only one fabric, or stay home on the Sabbath, so why pick out that verse to obey?

It goes on, but while this guy probably can't be convinced unless he does have a gay relative (and we hope he doesn't try a "cure&quot the audience should get a resounding argument against him.

beware of the person who has all the answers. He darts and weaves about verses in the Bible to justify his idiotic beliefs. His pride in his superficial knowledge about people and scripture is irritating and grating. God needs to call him home and leave the rest of humanity a bit better.

The original Jewish Sabbath was from sundown on Friday until sundown on Saturday. The Roman Emperor Constantine, under whose watch Christianity became to official state religion of the Roman Empire, changed it to Sunday, because he had been a worshiper of "Sol Invictus", or the Unconquerable Sun. And there is a lot of solar symbolism and mythology in the Jesus story. In spite of the whole story of God emblazoning the Ten Commandments on tablets of stone, the truth is that religious scriptures and traditions are not sacrosanct or set in stone, but rather, grew and evolved over time, as a gradual accumulation of material that came to be considered as divinely inspired.

... deserves no forum, though it does serve to expose his malignancy. This turd is evil down to his DNA. BTW, I'm 67, straight, and married.

When I encounter such diseased bigotry toward gay people, I ask the offending party if it knows why men have nipples. The answer is invariably a blank stare. Men have nipples because ALL fetuses are FEMALE in the early stages of gestation. The chromosome that defines maleness can manifest itself at varying points in the course of development. So, too, can myriad other tweaks of the genome, including those that define one's sexual preferences.

Religious zealots of any stripe disgust me. They wallow in ignorance, superstition, and bald-faced lies, all supposedly in service to the Word of God. The Christian variety are too stupid to read a little history and learn that their precious Bible is actually the word of Constantine the First's Nicean Council which, while seeking to avoid a war between Christians and Pagans, very carefully chose which books of the New Testament would be allowed, and what they would say. He then declared Christianity to be the NEW! IMPROVED! official State Religion of Rome. Constantine himself remained a Pagan until he was baptized on his deathbed, much to his dismay.

This festering pustule, Anderson - could it be that he doth protesteth too much? (Hint, hint!) - proves that H. L. Mencken was right. Religion IS the greatest fomentor of hatred and intolerance in the history of humanity.

Is religion a cause of hatred, or simply an excuse? Those of us with a more-cynical estimate of the milk of human kindness may come to the conclusion that if there were no religion, it would be necessary to invent it. It's not like people aren't willing to slit one another's throats over any perceived "difference."

Your very apt chicken-and-egg analogy is the same cyclic phenomenon as the causality/excuse model. Religion, though, offers an institutionalized justification for bigotry that gives the perpetrator the excuse, doncha think?

There are so many institutionalized reasons for bigotry. I think religion succeeds because it feeds a deep well of hatred and intolerance in people, even when ostensibly it is based on peace and love. It may be that religion allows bigots to achieve greater depths of depravity than other excuses, but there are plenty of atrocities done in the name of other ideologies, so I'm not satisfied that religion stands apart there. We can juxtapose "Kill them all, God will know his own" with "We had to destroy the village to save it." One thing is certain to me, and that is that people who want to hurt others will always find some justification.
