Republicans don't want Obama to go to Furgeson because it's a partisan play, yet they keep pestering him to go to the Mexican border to hang with the wannabe Rambos because it's a partisan play.

Oh by the way I saw the Wannabe Rambos at the Troubadour last week.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/02/politics/kristoff-oreilly-police-shooting-numbers-fact-check/
the stats are far from clear.

"Washington (CNN) -- Syndicated columnist Nicholas Kristof wrote this week that young black men are 21 times more likely to be shot and killed by police than young white men. Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly had a much different take on his show Monday night, offering that more whites are killed by police than blacks.
"In 2012, 123 African-Americans were shot dead by police. There are currently more than 43 million blacks living in the U.S.A.," O'Reilly said on his program. "Same year, 326 whites were killed by police bullets. Those are the latest stats available."
Two dramatically different statistics -- and they could both be right.
That reality, in part a result of weak local reporting and national data gathering efforts on police homicides, has long frustrated researchers and analysts who say they need to know more about those shootings."

that black people are not shot, executed, murdered more, proportionally, than any other racial group? Just curious as to your putting Oh'reilly up as a 'source' of information...to be used as a confusion point as to the truth of state sanctioned murder of black people. It's obvious that ........oh never mind you, really.

you're still not addressing the question, as usual. Experience trumps your sad attempt at trying to deflect, distract, diminish the real problem of racism, in the police department(s) and with some of their police officers, toward blacks. You can't see this happening, that is fine. Can't really say I'm surprised at your response(s).

Mon Dec 8, 2014, 03:01 PM

http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/News/Jamaican-police-increasingly-facing-murder-charges

Since 2000, security forces have reported killing nearly 3,000 people on the island of 2.7 million. Last year, 258 people died at the hands of law enforcement. In comparison, police fatally shot 13 people last year in Chicago, a US city with the same population as Jamaica.

Almost all of those killed have been written off by police as armed criminals who died in shootouts. A tiny percentage of the cases have made it to the courts, and only one Jamaican officer has been convicted of an unlawful killing since 2006, according to a 2013 human rights report by the US State Department.

I'm sure there are black police killing blacks in Jamaica. Hell, blacks shot down blacks in South Africa during apartheid, at the behest of their white masters and to hold on to their very small piece of the pie. That is not the point here and I appreciate your pitiful attempt at making false equivilancy be the truth about american race problems, but it is a mighty FAIL. I will spend no more time with your deflection, denying, diminishing of an american problem . You are exceedingly transparent and obvious. Laughable, really.

But if you read that article, you will find that Jamaica has made significant inroads in investigating police killings, from which we might learn something.

Sorry you find that an occasion for a personal commentary.

And see how many of the people murdered by cops were LGBT? Jamaica is one of the most hateful countries in the world when it comes to gay people.

And I live in Chicago. I doubt that number. Very seriously doubt it. But Chicago cops are better at torture and brutalizing to death, locking up innocent people who are, surprise, almost always black people

Dec 2014

When comparing the incidence of something among two population groups when one of those groups is substantially larger than the other, you simply cannot compare raw numbers in any meaningful way. One of the best ways to analyze the data in a case such as this is to compare the proportional incidence of the two groups.

Nicholas Kristof said that young black men are 21 times more likely to be killed by police than young white men.

**** YOUNG BLACK MEN ****

**** YOUNG BLACK MEN ****

That is the qualifier.

YOUNG BLACK MEN. Age 15 - 19

AGE 15 to 19. <------ Qualifier

Then Bill O'Reilly said more whites are killed by police than blacks.

O'Reilly said in general, whites of ALL AGES are killed more often than blacks of ALL AGES.

One person said "YOUNG PEOPLE" and the other said "ALL AGES".

Kristof used ages 15 to 19.

O'Reilly used ages 0 to 150 (or whatever includes everyone).

They are using different age ranges to state their respective points.

Over the course of the past week, I have encountered a nu8mber of folks who will readily admit that we have a problem with excessive use of force by police, but who want to insist it "isn't really a race problem." But the numbers tell the tale. You simply cannot disentangle the two issues.

thats 10% of the overall homicide rate for that group - so out of the total pool of homicides, a significant portion are caused by cops, although I acknowledge that most of those shootings are probably not fatal.
