Did the North Park Vons install a live wire to keep birds away?

SAN DIEGO - A local man is upset after he allegedly witnessed a bird being electrocuted to death by a live wire outside the entrance to a Vons grocery store in North Park Thursday night.
We were just walking in and we heard this loud snapping, it was just super loud, said Adam Young, who was picking up groceries with his girlfriend at the Vons store at 4145 30th St. in North Park.
I looked up and it was very obvious you could see arcing, not like a current, you could actually see open voltage arcing.
Then something disturbing followed.
I looked over to the other side and a bird landed and got killed right in front of us; right in front of the door, underneath people walking in and out with their groceries.

I asked the security guard a few days ago and he said it was to keep away birds. Not to say you are wrong, but I am just saying that is the information I was given when I asked about it.

They could crank that power down to annoying setting instead of death ray setting, and that would still discourage the birds without killing them.

They were nesting under the air conditioner on the roof.
You don't NEED to zap the birds. Just eliminate the places they use for cover and they'll move on.
They also sell spikes to eliminate their roosting areas.
