City (15 dead), BP Deepwater Horizon (11 dead), Asbestos companies covering up the dangers for 50 years while they killed millions, it just never stops. Now we put caps on damages so they have less incentive to care. BP had literally calculated how much each death would cost them when they were trying to figure which of 4 budget proposals to use to fix up the old rusty Amoco plant they got in the merger of the two companies. BP's dilema was that under the "Straw House" and "Stick House" (they actually put cartoon straw, stick and brick houses on the budget proposals) they estimated that they would have some workers die because they were not going to fix many of the most dangerous things wrong in the plant. They chose the "Stick House" budget because profit was the highest and they estimated they would only kill "one or two workers. Six weeks later they killed 15! They had documents worse than that and the Deepwater Horizon blew for the same reason, cutting corners and cost to make even more money. Everytime I see a BP commercial I want to break the TV!
My heart goes out to this lady and her family.
