(108 posts)If they lose the in November, I suspect they'll begin to rally behind this guy.
Santorum is a proto-fascist.

(24,412 posts)Santorum may be a strong contender for 2016- assuming that Romney loses this year (and Smerconish seems to think he will). It will certainly be interesting to see what the GOP is going to look like in 4 years. If Romney loses, I imagine that that is only going to push the GOP further to right (how much further can they go before they fall off the map?) and, in that case, Santorum might be more "viable" next time.

(24,412 posts)saying he would be "strong contender" in 2016 for the GOP nomination is like damning him with faint praise IMHO. The more important question for me is whom we might have to choose from in 2016? Whom are to we to consider "rising stars" in our own party? I would honestly like to see Hillary run but it doesn't seem as though that is likely given her public statements and I don't think Biden plans to run again either. Who's being "groomed" for a run right now?

(11,304 posts)start concenrating local, state houses and congress and senate. Not just the President. We really have to do something. I think the republicans are doing that now. They realize they may not win in Nov. but they got their eyes on the states. So we need to do this same. We need to vote straight democratics.

(24,412 posts)After all, having Obama as POTUS will mean less if he has to deal with a fully GOP-controlled Congress. Also, things are going to continue to suck if we have to continue to deal with fully Republican-controlled state houses year after year.

(5,609 posts)NOPE, nominees are selected by the elite as manifested by Mitt Romney this election cycle. The rank and file conservatives don't want him but they're stuck with him. Same with Santorum's supporters: they will lose to another more *moderate* candidate anointed by the GOP elite (Jeb Bush is my best guess). Santorum doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell against that.

(5,609 posts)and even if Jeb Bush wins the GOP 2014 nomination, it's no guarantee he can win in the general election. A great deal depends upon who the Dem nominee is.
