(31,535 posts)As far as what has happened, the fundies and the tea party have made a lot of headway in the state. If you read the LTTE in our local paper, many of them sound like hellfire and brimstone sermons. We're moving backwards.

(11,527 posts)If you can't get voters to the polls based on your values and what you'll do to help them then gin up a lot of fear and get voters to the polls based on that. It's worked before and it'll probably work again.
And unfortunately Democrats don't seem to be doing a good job of countering this irrational fear.

(17,505 posts).... before the military budget was 3 time greater than all the other world's military budgets combined. Maybe spending more on the military makes one LESS secure!
Frankly, I feel safer when we don't have the House of Saud's best buddies and business partners in charge of our country.

(39 posts)(2006) Saying Republicans will take both the house and the senate.) Mediamatters
The MEDIA is still messing with our polls, but it will backlash.
November 2006: The Senate elections were part of the Democratic sweep of the 2006 elections, in which Democrats made numerous gains and no Congressional or gubernatorial seat held by a Democrat was won by a Republican
How did Karl Rove (and the media) get everything so wrong?
Because they still use the same old tactics: that Democrats are 'weak'; that Democrats will use that 'weak' story, and eat their own; That POLLS say they're going to win big, so don't bother to vote.......that the terrorists will 'get us' if they're in charge. Throw in some anti-abortion, gay fear, latinos are taking your jobs and 'taxes'.
OLD white guys with money-brainwashed and stuffed so tightly into their little cubicles of opinion...they can't see that they're going extinct........

(17,656 posts)During their first public debate, and I am guessing their only public debate, Senator James Risch used an old, tired, worn out attack on Democrats for the reason why he hasn't worked to protect a very pristine area in North Idaho from development, called the White Clouds area.
He told the public that it was the "environmental extremists" in the Democratic party that kept him from writing any legislation to protect that area from being turned into another upscale, ritzy, housing development for the wealthy located high in the mountains.
His Democratic opponent quickly responded by saying that Risch has been in the Senate for almost 6 years now, yet NOT once has he even talked publicly about protecting the White Clouds area from development.
Of course the reason is obvious, Risch owns a lot of land in Idaho.
He is one of the most wealthy members of Congress, and is listed as the #14 wealthiest member in the current Congress.
It is estimated that he owns somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 to $70 million dollars of property in Idaho.
So, naturally Risch wants to see the White Clouds area developed.
Hell, he may even own property in that area, or land that is adjacent to it!!
But, I have to admit, I haven't heard the term "environmental extremists" applied to Democrats for several years now.
Not since those halcyon days when the batshit crazy Republicans were blaming the poor economy in Idaho on the spotted owl, which was simply total bullshit.
The Republicans claimed that protecting that owl supposedly cost the state most of our timber jobs.
Completely ignoring the fact that cheaper lumber was being imported in to America from vast forests located just to the north of us, in Canada.

(14,594 posts)All we need is a tea party majority and a tea party dictator. We already have the oligarchy. The ironic part, of course, is that it is the right-wing crazy wing of the Republican party that has taken us to this precipice.
