Long before Americans were introduced to the new 9/11 era super-villains called ISIS and Khorasan, senior Obama officials were openly and explicitly stating that Americas war on terror, already 12 years old, would last at least another decade. At first, they injected these decrees only anonymously; in late 2012, The Washington Post - disclosing the administrations secret creation of a disposition matrix to decide who should be killed, imprisoned without charges, or otherwise disposed of - reported these remarkable facts:
Among senior Obama administration officials, there is a broad consensus that such operations are likely to be extended at least another decade. Given the way al-Qaida continues to metastasize, some officials said no clear end is in sight. . . . That timeline suggests that the United States has reached only the midpoint of what was once known as the global war on terrorism.
In May, 2013, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing on whether it should revise the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF). A committee member asked a senior Pentagon official, Assistant Secretary Michael Sheehan, how long the war on terror would last; his reply: At least 10 to 20 years. At least."* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Nothing happened prior.
There is no history of President's using our military prior to Obama.
Obama caused it.
Obama stared the war on terror.
ok.

It's more like
"Meet the new boss
same as the old boss
". In fact, Cenk was examining war time since the days of Adam Smith's elite. The elite do not cease to amuse themselves by the return of investment in times of war and lack of amusement in times of peace.
The fact that Obama has done nothing to change endless war should be obvious, but it surely didn't begin with THIS administration.

(41,861 posts)All the money that goes for that, could go for homelessness back here as well as housing for the poor who are living on the streets. And, how much do Military Veterans get? The ones who come back wounded from their wars? $3,000 a month maybe for 100% disabled?? Republicans want to cut payments that veterans need. More Wars, less money for disabled vets? WTF?
Think of the advancements in Science that could be used with that money. This country now is nothing more than a war loving country. People are making profit off of blowing foreigners to pieces.. killing families that had nothing to do with any of this crap. Its truly disgusting... we could have been in SPACE by now..exploring the planets in this solar system or discovering our own deep oceans.. instead we use our hard earned tax dollars on more efficient killing machines.. and those that are not used, are given to the local police departments who in turn, are using them now, against us.
disgusting. totally disgusting.

(2,212 posts)First off, let me say the OP title on this thread (Thanks, Obama!) is a mischaracterization of the entire video. Uygur's point is that, when it comes to endless war, Obama has been more of same. (Is the poster contesting that?) Furthermore, Uygur makes the point that even if a Democrat follows Obama into the White House, in the form of Hillary Clinton, the situation will only grow worse since the hawkish Clinton's already stated that these endless wars are "essential."
What's important here is the grim fact that endless war is the new reality of the United States.
Eisenhower saw it coming when he warned of the threat of the military industrial complex in his farewell address in 1961. Historians 500 years hence, I am convinced, will mark the beginning of Endless War during the Bush 2 administration. Unless something dramatic occurs in terms of massive reform or revolution, those same historians will be describing how this fatal flaw of our broken democracy led to the destruction of the United States.
Endless War is here. It's busily siphoning away money from the populace into the pockets of the rich. There is nothing in place now or on the horizon that can stop it. It is the new reality.
