Orwell Rolls In His Grave

This was released in 2003 and is 3 hours long but I benefited from watching it. It's a great reminder of where we are and how we got here. We have an election coming up and a global crisis that needs to be addressed. I don't like being reminded of all this, not at all...but I'm angry about what's been done and what continues to be done to the people of our country and around the world. This has to stop.

Bernie Sanders is in this and as always he says it like it is...so does Michael Moore.

Be sure to watch past the credits at the end because it goes into solutions and additional information.

4. +1,000,000,000!!!!! This is one of the most important post/video I have seen on DU!

You cannot break it down to a sound bite as our population has become accustomed to because we are so busy. This insidious corruption of the media and political process is almost complete. As this video refers to, the media and political powers were trying to gain control over the last area of dissemination of the truth, the Internet. Since this was made they have made the first move to control access to content, more will come.
Let me give you a real world example of how the corporate media favors the powerful corporations vs. John Q. Public. When the Deepwater Horizon blew killing 11 men and polluting the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, BP suddenly became the largest advertiser by far in the post crash depression on the Gulf Coast. Their feel good BS ran on all stations day and night! Radio and newspapers were not left out of BP's largess either. The problem was when they tried to report on their local victims, they got cut off. The others learned quickly and the nation has no clue of the true impact, the scale and scope of this disaster! BP didn't stop there, they bought up every documentary that came out, before they came out. They bought the state Attorney Generals who's states have yet to recoup lost sales tax revenue in the billions. Obama blessed the "20 billion dollar fund and BP's hand picked "Independant" Ken Feinberg to run it, except there was never a 20 billion dollar fund and Feinberg was found by the Judge to have, "...always been BP's Representative."
Any real reporting would have easily demonstrated that the Emporer has no clothes. There was never 20 billion put into a fund. Obama gave BP the use of the Coast Guard to spray Corexit to sink the oil out of sight, all to get the media to move on to the next story, the 2010 midterms. The victims are still waiting for justice, many have already been denied by a one-sided Class Action settlement. That settlement was procured after BP offered to pay the Plaintiff's Steering Committee (PSC a group of law firms hand picked by the judge to prosecute the case) a $600,000,000 "Common Benefit Fund" if the settlement is completely processed and almost all victims are trapped into it. They don't get the money if too many victims "Opt Out" of the Class. It is a shit sandwich that is denying 75% of the victims while BP cries about paying a few victims with losses unrelated to the spill based on how the settlement was drafted. BP wrote the provisions they are now complaining about, but nothing is said about how it denies so many more actual victims any recovery.
Real reporting would have made this situation impossible! Corporations run our government and most people are either ignorant or apathetic. They buy off both political parties and almost all candidates Federal, State, and Local with campaign contributions and Super Pacs!
We need Publicly Funded Elections, outlaw campaign contributions, bust up the media oligopoly and Wall Street! Otherwise, we are witness to the fall of America as we are looted and ravaged and used up!

It was amazing how Obama kicked the gulf and it's people under the rug with the complete compliance of the media. It disappeared just like the oil from the surface...but we all know the poison is still there. Money is everything including speech..corporations are people...our supreme court is bought and paid for by the corporations.

We are in dire straights...the fascists rule.

As is pointed out in the video we could change this very easily...it isn't complicated.

As I watched it occurred to me that many of the younger people here might find this video instructive...I'm getting old and it was a good reminder of how far we've fallen.

beginning information. The discussion begins around the end of the first two minutes.

All DUers should watch this.

It discusses in detail Clinton's signing of the Telecommunications Act and the horrible price that we are now paying for that simple signing.

Where are the days when a president believed enough in his ideals to veto acts that would limit the freedom and democratic rights of other Americans.

I will not vote for Hillary Clinton, in part because Bill signed the Telecommunications Act discussed in this video. It will utterly destroy what remains of our democracy. The bill is a cruel joke on our Founding Fathers. It is shameful.

You did it so much better than I. I believe this video is very important and should be seen by as many people as possible. We are in serious trouble and in danger of loosing everything our country was founded on. Our values have been twisted and co-opted by fascists and our future stolen.

I agree with you about Clinton. As has been said many times, he was the best republican president we've ever had and yes, his signing of the Telecommunications Act is a cruel joke.

We, and the world, are well and truly fucked.

there were repeated clips throughout, which didn't help any too.

But anywho! I'm so glad I'm not backing the media financially (cable industry) anymore. I've cut the cable completely.

Imagine if all Democrats threatened that industry by saying the say the same thing.

Money is power.
