How the U.S. Concocted a Terror Threat to Justify Syria Strikes, and the Corporate Media Went Along

-------------------------------------------------

Also see: The Fake Terror Threat Used To Justify Bombing Syria
By Glenn Greenwald and Murtaza Hussain

As the Obama Administration prepared to bomb Syria without congressional or U.N. authorization, it faced two problems. The first was the difficulty of sustaining public support for a new years-long war against ISIS, a group that clearly posed no imminent threat to the “homeland.” A second was the lack of legal justification for launching a new bombing campaign with no viable claim of self-defense or U.N. approval.

The solution to both problems was found in the wholesale concoction of a brand new terror threat that was branded “The Khorasan Group.” After spending weeks depicting ISIS as an unprecedented threat — too radical even for Al Qaeda! — administration officials suddenly began spoon-feeding their favorite media organizations and national security journalists tales of a secret group that was even scarier and more threatening than ISIS, one that posed a direct and immediate threat to the American Homeland. Seemingly out of nowhere, a new terror group was created in media lore.

The unveiling of this new group was performed in a September 13 article by the Associated Press, who cited unnamed U.S. officials to warn of this new shadowy, worse-than-ISIS terror group:....

In the 2000 election, and 9/11. We're suppose to not blame anyone at the Pentagon that they our biggest DEFENSE source failed. No cameras, and the Secretary of DEFENSE was on the Pentagon lawn helping victims. Happens all the time. Just one blurry video is ALL we get to see. Like it, or be called a "truther".

Nut job conspiracy theorist, Twoofer, Tinfoiler and other smear labels are pretty much all they've got, and understandably so -- it's extremely difficult if not impossible to construct durable, coherent argumentation defending poorly crafted fairy-tales.

They know the MSM will play along, and they can count on the right wing to be for war no matter what...and now that we have a Dem as president many dems will go along with it anyway to protect Obama from criticism.
The game is stacked on their side.

ignoring a rattle snake living in your mail box. You may wish it wasn't there but sooner or later you have to get the mail.
Every now and then RW propaganda gains so much traction so quickly that is finds it's way into what we consider "trusted sources".
Not to mention the possibility of a "trusted source" going over to the dark side.

It's quite a craft and requires dedication.

That there are RW Sources reporting on News Articles that might appeal to Left Wing Sources would be certainly an interesting experiment in manipulation.

One might hope that if both the Left and Right are for Peace and against Endless Wars it might spread fear in some circles that a joining of the two might morph into a movement which might end some profitable enterprises.

So it's not far fetched to suppose that there's always something in a situation that could cause one to wonder.

This is a great interview, btw. I hope you took the opportunity to watch it.

The fake-left is for anti-US, anti-Obama and pro-Putin. The RW in this case is mainly the second and not above the third.

... they (RW) do have a viperous way of making themselves virtually impossible to ignore for very long.

Yes, it is unsettling when RW and trusted left give nearly identical takes on some event or series of
important events and neither are challenging the official narrative (all the Ebola hype comes to mind) -- as you say, something isn't right.

Excellent point.. but I'm thinking, I'm gonna have to figure out how to extract that snake (dead or alive) before I do anything else.

I'd argue this is actually the rule, rather than the exception wrt to the media being on the dark side. in other words, a whole lot more often than "every now and then"

And I especially love how you put this:

One thing for cretin, when they all start singing the same chapter and verse in three part harmony, you know something is not right.

you may have come away with the though that idiocy was the order of the day. When dealing with that type of thing it is sometimes best to go the source to show the idiocy in its full glory rather than wait for clearer heads to 'pretty it up'. Telling you how Limbaugh had slightly misread the script would not be as good as allowing him to slightly misread the script to you himself.

If you had not been following the story I will 'pretty it up' and tell it as fairytale it is.

Once upon a time in the Teapublic of Gopland their arose a need to prove that the Obama had lied about the dreaded Kardassians in the same way that the discredited Bush had lied about the Sadmans Weapons of Mass Destruction. It would also be nice to show that the Obama cared as little for the security of Gopland as did the dreaded Bush. So, a story was written about a new make pretend terrorist group posing an imminent threat. So even though the nation gathered their mighty might and bombed the living snot out of the terrorists it wasn't a proper ending for the tale. The make pretend Cardassians and their threat suddenly never existed at all. This befuddled the spinmasters so terribly that they spun their spin and their counter spin in a manner so failed that it did not satisfy any of the corporations who paid them to spin their spin. In any event all of the nonexistent terrorists were killed off by drones at the wedding. This left the Franklunts with his fingers in the cake and only the story of how it is bad for evil drones to kill a terrorist with no name at the wedding that may or may not have existed.

Got that?
Right...
