(5,610 posts)in Clarksville Tn...seriously.
I have witnessed cops en masse enter a large club, indiscriminately arrest patrons for P.I. (some non-drinkers too), push customers attempting to go to bathroom or bar and then have 2-3 cops carry these "drunks" to the squad car for assault, whatever they could think of. That was 30 years ago and the owners had stopped paying their protection money...seriously.

(10,056 posts)It appears that my city police are headed down the road to militarization and unconstitutional acts.
These officers have no business in this job.

I do not belive even SS was doing it as regulary - as this police offices do it - mostly becouse before World War two - SS was seen as "Political warriors" and guards to protect the political leadership in Nazi-Germay - the order police - or the regular police was more capable of doing this things than SS - who untill World War two - had some limits to its duties - it was not untill late in the 1930s- that membership in SS was one of the instrument way of getting promotion in the order police - Many regular police officers was member of either S.A - at least untill 1934 - after that SS kind won the war between S.A and SS - and it was some of prestige to be able to be a member of SS - it was just the elite who was shoosen for beeing member of SS...
Under World War two on the other hand - SS was able to emulate a lot of power - as SS and SD more and more grab into the regular duties of the order police - in 1943-44 Heinrich Himmler, with his lautnants was in fact leader of all police in Germany - and also in the occupied territories in both West and East...

True - absolutely true - and it is counter-effective in the long run - to do this things all the time - from what I have seen from DU and other places - the police in US excessive force in their duty - you should never use more force than absolute necessary - but on the other hand - the violence in the US is on a level I doubt we have in Norway - yet at least... And therefore the police tend to be little less aggressive in their stand than in the US...

Then they do it wrong - You follow the rules - you do not make it up as you go... It is thugs who make it up as it goes - real police officers - who is trained and educated know the rules - and follow it as best they can.... I guess things is different in the US

It could be - but we see many of the same action movies here in Norway - And even then the police are not doing as many police officers are doing it in the US.... I wounder if the most important reason for the difference is because of the education the police have in Norway - it is a 3 year university level education - where they learn a lot about how to handle things on a "Low-level" way - and where they also is educated about what they are able to do - and not to do...
And for the most part - they do follow the rules - and the ones who do not - is for the most part punished accordingly... I doubt a police officer in Norway would have been able to shoot an unarmed man - in daylight like in Ferguson - and not been arrested and put in a cell awaiting trial for murder... Properly rather difficult as a weapon is not part of the uniform - even if police do have weapon in the police cruiser - but have to been allowed to use it from the local department - as it is strict guidelines to when use a weapon at all... And it is a hell of a paperwork after an incident where weapon are used I am been told - everything must be on paper....

It is indeed a difference between a football field and the gun range - and a 3 year long university level education - true.... Of course our police officers also know how to handle a weapon - but it is not a mandatory part of the uniform - and most people- even the criminals tend to accept the fact that police handle them without the use of weapon...
