Mike Malloy - World Losing Battle Against Ebola

The international group Doctor Without Borders warned Tuesday that the world is losing the battle against Ebola and lamented that treatment centers in West Africa have been “reduced to places where people go to die alone” as authorities race to contain the disease.

In Liberia, a missionary organization announced that another American doctor has become infected.

1. Well, unfortunately there are huge cultural problems there.

They do not trust western doctors -- for Christ sakes, they attacked an Ebola clinic and took the patients to their homes, or something, spreading the disease even more. The medical infrastructure utterly sucks and is totally inadequate to deal with this outbreak. In the USA no doctors would be infected. In Africa, the medical staffs are overwhelmed and the lack of infrastructure makes it dangerous to treat Ebola. That medical staff are willing to put their lives on the line to help out speaks volumes.

Plus, there are plenty of quacks and religious kooks who are saying that Ebola is a hoax, or a western conspiracy.

In short, this is pretty much the definition of a clusterfuck.

2. Of course Ebola has promised to only infect black people overseas...

and never any white people within the borders of the US

3. That is a ridiculous statement.

Many of the health care workers on the ground in Africa are putting their lives in jeopardy -- more than a few have died.

However, these are very poor countries with little medical and education infrastructure. That is why Ebola has such a grip there. Plus, the area has been exploited by religious missionaries for many decades. (And yes, there is an argument that it all might be racial.)
