Family fun for one California familyfiring at targets at their homemade shooting rangeturned scary when their 7-year-old son suddenly clutched his chest and his Dad noticed he was bleeding. The boy was reportedly firing a single-shot, .22 bolt action youth rifle under his father's supervision. When the boy cried out, his father noticed there was a small hole in his shirt, then blood.
The boy's father rushed him to the local fire station, from which he was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. According to Sacramento TV station KCRA, he is expected to survive.

(1,957 posts)Yards were full of swing sets, sandboxes, balls of all sorts to play catch from soft squishy balls to footballs. They had toys--not things that could kill. What goes on in the mind of tots if they are brought up aiming to kill?

And slightly OT: The parents of that 9 yr. old who killed her instructor should have been charged with child endangerment (well, if the law allowed).
The duty of parents is to protect their child. In what possible universe would it be appropriate for a 9 year old to try to defend themselves with an Uzi? I can just see, if a Chinese Army invaded this country, a parent saying, "I'm gonna go hide in the closet. Here, Hon, take this Uzi and hold them off as long as you can". Geez!
