.."Five Year Plans and New Deals, Wrapped in Golden Chains.."

and I wonder who'll stop the rain"
CCR 1970
-------------------------
Still relevant today. The tragedies occur & disappear so rapidly there is little time to morn before the next shocks us to the point of wondering who can stop the rain, this time?
I have been caught up somewhere between 1968 & 2014. There's an unsettling familiarity.
I've not posted here lately for this reason. Guess I was expecting a far better world by now. That society would be wiser & governments would function for the good of all.
Greed for money & power destroys societies.
We are still fighting for the same thing now as we did back then.
Sad to say.

the outside, to a politically wise revolutionary. The music & message of that time in my life, like you say, was staple.

I remember watching the news, every night there was a head count of our casualties vs. their casualties. And I just thanked my lucky stars once again that I missed out on being invited to Vietnam by one year.

(J.C. Fogerty)

Met myself a comin' county welfare line.
I was feelin' strung out, Hung out on the line.
Saw myself a goin', down to war in June.
All I want, All I want is to write myself a tune.

CHORUS:
Wrote A Song For Ev'ryone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote A Song For Ev'ryone
And I couldn't even talk to you.

Got myself arrested, Wound me up in jail.
Richmond 'bout to blow up, Communication failed.
If you see the answer, now's the time to say.
All I want, All I want is to get you down to pray.

Saw the people standin' thousand years in chains.
Somebody said it's diff'rent now, look, it's just the same.
Pharoahs spin the message, round and round the truth.
They could have saved a million people, How can I tell you?

I hadn't heard that before and the words are very powerful.

This one - Lodi - was my favorite, although it never got the notoriety that others did. I like the way the youtube has the video with the music - enjoy one and all!

Listening to this music reminds me how back in the late 60's - early 70s music could be a narcotic - a form of escape or at least made the world's crises a little easier to bear. Back then, we/US society were just appreciating the problems to be faced of social injustice and war and the environment. For me, my biggest challenges (shamefully) was getting a date with Mr. right - I was essentially clueless until the late '80's early 90's when I embraced the environmental movement and my activism went on from there.

Btw misterhighwasted, you are not alone in expecting and being impatient for a far better world. Although I'm far from anyone who would claim to speak for DU, I share your sadness as do others on this blog that we are fighting the same battles as were fought in the 60's and long before....It's the least that we can do for those who have gone before us and inspired us to keep up the struggle. Moral authority is on our side.

It all seems so appropriate. As far as Lodi goes, that was played on a regular basis here in Dallas. We had one of the first FM underground stations. KNUS underground did a lot of album rock. Good radio back then.

Accept for the local community radio KNON, it's all crap now.

Thanks for the mellow. Peace
