Mideast Maelstrom: Deadly Israel op in Gaza stirs regional racial violence

- I don't know the etymology or what the past meanings of the name ''Netanyahu'' could have been. But I do know what it'll mean to me from here on out......

“This blind defense of Israeli brutality towards the Palestinians is betrayal of the memory of all those killed in other genocides in other times. The lesson of the Holocaust is not that Jews are special. It is not that Jews are unique. It is not that Jews are eternal victims. The lesson of the Holocaust is that when you have the capacity to halt genocide, and you do not, no matter who carries out that genocide or who it is directed against, you are culpable. ”

... Chris Hedges. And we all know this. We were raised with this knowledge. Yet, here we are, in the 21st century, and for some reason our government has stopped quoting that old axiom "Never again!" We're culpable, alright. In so many many ways.

3. The Merrygoround of Abuse and Genocide

In the psychology of dysfunctional families, all too often, if nothing exceptional is done to correct the cycle of abuse, the abused become the abusers. I would venture to say that the same applies not only to individuals and their families, but also on the collective level, with entire nations and religious / ethnic groups within the human family as well. The Jewish people, abused by the Nazis in the WWII holocaust, have in turn become the abusers of the Palestinians when they themselves came into a position of power and dominance. It seems like abuse is a contagious plague that wants to be spread and passed on if nothing is done to stop it and break the cycle.

I have visited Israel and Palestine, and it seemed to me that Israel, whether it likes it or not, is actually a multiethnic, multireligious state, and not exclusively Jewish. It seemed to me, for example that most of the shop keepers in the old city of Jerusalem were Arabs, who also live amongst the Israelis in other parts of Israel as well. I think it's kind of like with the Mexicans and Hispanics in our own southwest, that the country needs their labor and other contributions to function. And there are also Christians and Bahai's, etc... living there as well. Israel / Palestine, located geographically at a crossroads bridging continents, is a natural melting pot.
