(960 posts)seemed to be somewhere else. Well, its his usual deer in the headlights look I guess.
I have a feeling she's going to win. It will be refreshing to have someone like her in the senate - even more refreshing than having the turtle out.

She is awesome! Love her delivery and strength!
Some of those shots of McConnell looked like he was trying to look like he "didn't care".

(70,508 posts).... "that black man," was elected and even if it hurts the people of Kentucky he
didn't care such as not getting the money to fix the bridge on I 65 over the Ohio
River.

(199 posts)Mitch's speech consisted of attacking Obama and attacking her inexperience while Rand Paul sat nearby. I bet Rand Paul cringed.
She stayed on at the picnic while Paul and McConnell left.

(111,097 posts)Why?
Because she talks like a Democrat and understands that jobs is a big issue in Kentucky. It didn't help that the President gave the anti-environmentalists an issue that makes her job that much more difficult and put her in a position where she had no option but to oppose him on coal mining jobs. Ironically, she may be the one to save him from impeachment?

(111,097 posts)where the coal was stripped. It would be the perfect place for them and it could reinvigorate a dying economy.

(50,983 posts)I'm in Southeast Ohio where coal mining provides jobs. The voting here was close but Republicans got most of the votes. If these voters sense that Democrats oppose coal mining that vote will never be close again.
Even though you are correct. Coal mining should end. It should end now. The job market is already stressed. New technology is not going to come on line quickly enough.
It is hard to tell a 50 year old to go find a new job. Especially when there are no alternatives. You can't just up and move. You have paid for a house for 15 years. You can't sell it, no way. You can't afford to commute 70 miles. And where will you get a job in the city anyway?

(111,097 posts)She has been very supportive of the coal miners she has met campaigning. It is a necessary evil. However, if they can export it, it would save jobs here, even though it would add to pollution over there. But that is probably the trade-off we will have to make at this time?

(57,936 posts)I don't have air conditioning. Takes just a couple of days for the dust and ash to accumulate on my sink. I clean and clean. We got about half a minute of rain the other day. Felt so good.
Global warming is here, and fossil fuels are the problem. We need more clean energy jobs. Kentucky would be a great place for them.
You've got water in Kentucky. I hope it is clean water. One of these days, that will be of more value to Kentucky than all that coal. Water is the resource to watch.
But for the moment, we have to have coal. People would freeze if we just stopped using coal right now. The change has to be gradual.
A carbon tax might be a good idea. Remind people that while we need to use them, we will pay a price in the future for the carbon that we burn.

(750 posts)What we have here is the Bliss of ignorance. However,
a lot of these southern folks as someone would say, eh eh, dont have much reasoning power beyond high school.
Mitch, and the Republican Party likely throw out the national standards for education because of natural design in contrast to the instant seven day creation about the earth in the bible.
Only took seven days for God to create the world.
Whats really funny if anyone knows its the Kentucky backwoods people, know it takes longer to create moonshine than it does to create the darn Earth.
Something very weird, to very stupid with that reasoning.
Alison, has a Noahs Ark full of Mitch imbedded loyal political people she has to deal with. Plus little talked about gun control.
From what I understand No permits are required to buy hand guns, rifles, shot guns. Anyone can reside for six months and buy what ever they want. Talk about a wide open capability for gun running to places like Chicago.

(198 posts)Kentucky voted to accept the common core curriculum last fall. Do your research. While the rural areas of our state along with coal country is very conservative our two largest metro areas are filled with liberals. Lexington has a gay mayor. The small town of Vicco in coal country has a ban on gay discrimination.
Kentucky is both southern and country yet barefoot and progressive. Educate yourself and quit disparaging that which you do not understand.

(429 posts)She did it right! That was a joy to watch. She took it right too him... In His Face!!! It was thrilling to see that stunned look on Mitch's face as she was just truthfully calling him out for his atrocious political career. He didn't know what hit him! Keep on bringing it Alison! Thats how all Democrats need to do it!!! The Playbook has been re-written!!!

(18,124 posts)RW ignorance and stupidity is one of the reasons I get amazed at the willful ignorance and stupidity of amerikans?? who would vote against their own self interest just to be a person who is exercising their 'right' to vote. I just get amazed at the stupidity. I hope we get some young idea/people in the halls of power who really care about the american people and not lining their own pockets with huge corporate contributions that further aid the demise of the not so exceptional american voting system. She is exceptional, so far.
