Glenn Greenwald: Why Did NBC Pull Veteran Reporter After He Witnessed Israeli Killing of Gaza Kids?

Published on Jul 18, 2014
http://www.democracynow.org - NBC is facing questions over its decision to pull veteran news correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin out of Gaza just after he personally witnessed the Israeli military's killing of four Palestinian boys on a Gaza beach. Mohyeldin was kicking a soccer ball around with the boys just minutes before they died. He is a longtime reporter in the region. In his reporting, he reports on the Gaza conflict in the context of the Israeli occupation, sparking criticism from some supporters of the Israeli offensive. Back in 2008 and 2009, when he worked for Al Jazeera, Mohyeldin and his colleague Sherine Tadros were the only Western journalists on the ground in Gaza as Israel killed 1,400 people in what it called "Operation Cast Lead." We speak to Glenn Greenwald of The Intercept, who has revealed that the decision to pull Mohyeldin from Gaza and remove him from reporting on the situation came from NBC executive David Verdi. Greenwald also comments on the broader picture of the coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict in the U.S. media.

(And this sounds GOOD...but as we all know...if you get fired from your job or reassigned for speaking "Truth to Power" will this impair his future reporting because he was removed from reporting on GAZA but now has gotten a reprieve?...It's how it works in Corporate Life...and if he needs this job and the money.......there are ways the Corporate Controlled Media has of silencing one. I wish him well and am heartened to hear this good news. We will have to see how this goes with him. It was devastating to him....and his career. We have to be cautious...but, hopeful ....but, we know how that can go these days.)

NBC Correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin Is Returned to Gaza
By BILL CARTER
New York Times
JULY 18, 2014

Only days after NBC removed him from its coverage of the fighting in Gaza, the correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin will be reinstated and sent back into the region, the network said Friday evening.

The decision to pull Mr. Mohyeldin off the story, after he witnessed an Israeli air attack that killed four young Palestinians and then posted remarks on Twitter about it, prompted a round of questions, and much criticism of NBC among Internet commenters. Some accused the network of reacting to pressure from the Israeli side of the conflict. Mr. Mohyeldin is an Egyptian-American who previously worked for the cable news channel Al Jazeera English.

..........................

On Friday, NBC declined to give any explanation — official or not — for the sudden decision to send Mr. Mohyeldin back into Gaza. In a statement, NBC said only that its “deployments were constantly reassessed” in the region.Social-networking sites have given reporters in war zones the ability to immediately communicate their experiences. But those communications have also been closely examined by readers looking for bias.

In a Twitter posting on Friday evening Mr. Mohyeldin wrote: “Thanks for all the support. I’m returning to #Gaza to report. Proud of NBC’s continued commitment to cover the #Palestinian side of the story.”

Because they were concerned that he may have been emotionally traumatized?

Personally, I think I might be ready for a rubber room after seeing something like that!

in 2008. He made a documentary on some of the 1400 Palestinians who died in that war. It including footage of children killed by shells in back in 2008. He is veteran reporter in the true sense of the word.

I like your photo narrative it is quite correct. If NBC/GE want the BILLIONS to keep flowing they need this and other WARS. Without the BILLIONS they receive for the MILITARY ARSENAL OF DEATH they create, they would be a regular caring business. And when it comes to being a productive caring business verse making BILLIONS, well we all know what they have chosen...

Israeli military have been Killing of Gaza Kids for years! It's the point I was trying to make when I was suspended from this site. It doesn't make any difference, the truth will stand when the wold is on fire.
Just because they are "friends" of ours don't make it rite. The USA wont do a thing about it but turn its head like it has done for years.
