Yes. And the graphic seems to be arguing for more choice among makers of processed junk food. KurtNYC May 2014 #4

Most people just make unhealthy and/or socially irresponsible decisions.

I don't see how buying, for example, HFCS-based cereal or HFCS-based beverages from a smaller corporation/producer is any healthier than buying from one of the corporations in the graphic.

Heck, I would say that the alleged LACK of choice is an illusion -- if you want to buy potatoes, eggs or fruit from a local farmer you can. The graphic pretends like aisle 5 of the supermarket is the ONLY place anyone can buy food yet farmers' markets, grow you own and co-ops are all growing rapidly.

I read the graphic and thought "if you want to start a local brand, potato chips might be a good item to start with because the major don't dominate that".

I manage to eat quite healthily without eating any of the products, or even the categories, in the chart. I definitely don't get any of the stuff put out by the "top firms" at supermarkets. First off, I don't drink, beer, nor coffee, nor soft drinks - just herb teas and mineral water for me - without the ice. Then I do almost all of my shopping at health food stores, and not at conventional supermarkets. But no matter where I shop for my food, I am careful, and read all the labels. If you do your homework, even at a supermarket you might be able to avoid all the "top firms", who just so happen to produce most of the bottom quality food, and shop halfway healthy. Don't get the prepared foods - cook your food from scratch to avoid hidden sugar, additives, etc...
