This video is on fire on twitter right now

(34,857 posts)I don't know. Not many words start with 'nig'
Bill219
(1,235 posts)and nobody caught it.
Except that it seems Santorum realizes what he almost just said judging by his reaction

(134 posts)But this is not going to come to anything.
SemperEadem
(8,053 posts)this is already on fire on social media and as we've seen with the Sandra Fluke treatment by rush, stuff doesn't die down on the weekend anymore.
Folks are already on their haunches over race issues with the treatment of Trayvon Martin's character in the aftermath of his murder; now the retired black Marine who was murdered by cops in his own home... now this. No, this ain't going to die down.
Well, good luck with that, I suppose.

(134 posts)Are the reporters or big name bloggers that could lend any legitimacy to it.
Again, good luck with that.
But I don't see a point in focusing on the crazy stuff Santorum maybe almost sorta said, when there's a treasure trove of crazy stuff that he says that he actually meant to say.

(14,274 posts)I don't think it's a matter of focusing on the "crazy stuff Santorum maybe almost sorta said". I think it's a matter of focusing on the crazy bigoted stuff Santorum maybe almost sorta said and the crazy bigoted stuff he has said in the past.
Folks are talking about it. As well they should.

No luck needed here. Santorum has brought plenty of rope to this campaign.
SteveABG
(134 posts)The more you focus on him, the more Romney gets to skate by without proper scrutiny.
We should be focusing on Romney.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)because the GOP has not declared a Primary winner. I'm sure you've noticed that Romney gets plenty of scrutiny around here.
Bigotry is an ongoing issue that is battled here on a daily basis. I'm not sure how shining the light on one prevents shining the light on another.
Multi-tasking. Yes We Can.

(8,053 posts)how do you think the Komen story got its legs? How do you think the Sandra Fluke story got its legs? It wasn't "big named bloggers"--it was an avalanche of tweets and facebook posts by ordinary people who are fed up with this fucking shit.
The days of only certain kinds of media being the arbiters of what is "news" are dead and gone. Get with the times or be left behind.
SteveABG
(134 posts)Far bigger stories than this.
The only thing so far that has made this story noteworthy is that Santorum's people responded.
Which is a total amateur move. You don't respond to things like this, because then you give them credence.

(134 posts)What is the minimum number of days of before you stop being so suspicious?
I've lurked on this forum for years. I quit DailyKos because I got sick of a lot of the bickering there.
Maybe the same will happen here, but I hope not.
SteveABG
(134 posts)In fact, I said the stuff Santorum ACTUALLY MEANS TO SAY is far crazier than wasting our time scrutinizing this clip. This will go nowhere.
Please let me know how long I have to be a member before I'm allowed to disagree with you.

(1,353 posts)And I agree with you...what he actually says is much crazier than what he might have said here. Is there a longer clip available? Because what I'm seeing is too short to catch his reaction. I think, according to the "in" crowd, you are never allowed to disagree with them. Or you're a Republican, LOL!
grantcart
(53,061 posts)You seemed to be completely astonished why people found your responses "trollish"
My point was that when you are here a few days and become dismissive of a gaffe as serious Santorum's apparent verbalization of the "N" word then don't be surprised if people find it "trollish". You don't seem to be aware of such distinctions however.
I just don't see this lightning bolt gaffe that folks here seem to think it is.
grantcart
(53,061 posts)It was pretty revealing to me, especially since he had the 'blah' people incident a while back.

(8,053 posts)he is hysterical, undisciplined, mean, wrong and a loose cannon. He doesn't know when to shut his damn mouth, which is why he is swallowing "neg" or "nig" before it gets all the way out of his effin' mouth.
he embodies everything that is wrong with this country. Yes, he did say it and caught himself saying it when he remembered there were cameras recording him.

Why would he wait six months to start a Crusade?
He'll put Peter the Hermit in charge of his transition team.
SemperEadem
(8,053 posts)he will bring back the Inquisition and heresy will be a crime for which burning at the stake will be the remedy.

(793 posts)But he didn't really say the whole word. So as in horseshoes, it don't work in my estimation.
Don't worry with his swagger, he will really do it soon and double down right after.
Fearless
(18,421 posts)Glad he didn't though... The longer he's seen as viable the longer the GOP has to fight itself.
The Wizard

(2 posts)Sanatoriums' "blah" explanation just did not make any sense, neither did the sentence that he stumbled through to transition from the "nig....uh" that he did verbalize. The really sad aspect of this is that half of the voting population will either ignore it or actually get some perverse enjoyment from it.
