(5,610 posts)Not for Bundy (definitely) I certainly do not believe that this is THE cause we should UNITE around. The audio, due to the wind-
blown tarps is terrible but you can decipher the last few minutes.
He was talking about Americans putting their differences aside and concentrating on our illegal government. I relate to this. The ONLY way to end this oligarchy is to UNITE. We will have a lot of differences to put aside ("our" govt. and media focus on and increase these differences) just as this "militia member" said, divide and conquer IS a basic military strategy that is being used on Americans to prevent our unification and action (hopefully non-violent, and yes he was he was advocating non-violence unless you had to protect yourself/others from harm which we all know that "LEO's" are eager to inflict) against this non-Democratic government that we currently have.
I probably have very little in common with this person, what I do have in common is the desire to bring real Democracy to America.
After that is accomplished, then the will of the majority will have to kick-in. We will have to stay vigilant that the minority
is not persecuted in any way. Currently the top 1-10% is the minority that is completely ruling our country and I certainly can
no longer abide by that, Can you?
I strongly believe that in this case "the enemy of my enemy, is my friend." My enemy is oligarchy the two tiered legal system and
the vast injustices perpetrated by the existing tyranny that keeps the majority of its citizens in serfdom.
Only by UNITING for true Democracy (we are 350,000,000 + strong against, maybe a few thousand) can we hope to get it.
I do not see any other way.

(20,499 posts)get on out there. Never mind the fact that Bundy is actually part of the oligarchy you rail about. Never mind the racism. Never mind the teabagger aspect.
I'll be watching for you on the newsclips. Be sure to wave at the camera.

(876 posts)I'm sure you see yourself as fighting the good fight against "the man" but you really should research your "friends" before giving them a venue to spew their agenda. You allowed yourself to be duped if they convinced you that they have a desire to bring REAL democracy to this country. They want to usurp the government merely to put THEIR boot on your neck.
Bundy is a man of privilege that has benefited from the very two tiered system of justice that you claim to despise. How long would you and I have gotten away with failing to pay our debts? Bundy used the windfall he gained by refusing to pay his fair share to litigate for over 20 years, loosing over and over again. You and I would have been evicted long ago.
There are many groups to join forces with that would benefit the Occupy movement. Bundy's militia isn't one of them.

(220 posts)There are many issues that most righties and most lefties agree on, like mass surveillance, police militarization, the war on drugs. If we could unite around these issues that we all agree on it would be much easier to get our government to listen.

(2,178 posts)I think you got my point. I'm not advocating for Bundy and the Militias either. I posted this as a point of discussion, not to align myself or promote any Ideology.
It seems the 'Left' is as polarized as the 'Right.'

(618 posts)and "UNITE" with the Westboro Baptist Church?? I'm sure there exists a point or two where their point of view coincides with some general consensus. (they agree that water is wet and the sky is blue for instance)
The idea of a progressive making common cause with a rich, racist, thieving, non-fee paying, seditious, oligarch rancher has to be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever seen posted on DU.

(876 posts)don't affiliate yourself with fringe groups that pretends to be your ally who has no vested interest in your cause and will shoot you in the back. I'll give you a historical example of how a movement was altered irrevocably by a violent fringe element. The Hells Angels @ Altamont.

(8 posts)I don't usually post here, but I don't think we can change the government, nor get the money out of politics unless you make some common grounds with these guys. I don't particularly like what they stand for and I think Clive Bundy and some these militia folk should be behind bars. This guy is talking about a chance to run candidates who don't need millions to get to Washington. If these ultra righties will say get the money out of politics along with liberals, then there is a real strong chance that it happens.

(5,610 posts)No matter what you say if (nowadays) you mention Uniting (our only strength is in numbers I know this as a Progressive, retired Union carpenter) with anyone that doesn't share (my) exact beliefs, then you are asking "for a boot on your neck. Hell, I already have one.
It doesn't matter if you clearly state how you feel about this "cause."
I am looking at a Progressive cause, which the polls show that the majority of Americans support. Universal health care, money out of politics, people first politicians, equitable distribution of wealth and taxes....Democracy.
Unless we can "find common ground" with "the enemies of our enemies" we can forget about it. Most here seem to prefer the latter.
We sure have not gone forward (backward, yes) with this dlc, business as usual grumbling.
The vast majority of Americans want the same thing. With our educational system it is amazing that many are as polished as they are. None the less, unless we join together for those common goals and stop allowing the media, govt., kochs, etc.to keep us divided on fringe issues, TPTB will keep winning.

(12,697 posts)I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch they didnt have nothing to do. They didnt have nothing for their kids to do. They didnt have nothing for their young girls to do.
And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didnt get no more freedom. They got less freedom.

(8,175 posts)meaning...no respect for, or even recognition of the federal government, have to do with occupy wall street? OWS is not aligned with any kind of "down with government, skinhead, militia movement". OWS is fighting to save the country from an oligarchy. Federal grazing rights have absolutely nothing to do with the oligarchy.
Are you really saying the militia movements are valid? That they share anything at all with the progressive movement? Bull pucky!

(5,610 posts)who are ready to fight for a Democratic government than you will accept.
Sure we have big differences (I do anyway) but what is more important is our common ground.
I do not do Nth dimensional chess or "skinheads" ( you say) but I am ready for a people first Democratic govt. and this may get out
be our opportunity to unite. Unless we can unite over common ground, all is lost.
I am ready to find that common ground (hatred of oligarchy?) and make a stand.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, or fight in futility.
Shit, I already know the answer here...10 years ago it would have been obvious at DU.
Slavery is a fine life.....geez forethought often?

(8,175 posts)Survivalists and skinheads would have in common with me. Sorry...that is one enemy of my people that will never be my friend. Nada, zilch, in common. They are into breaking laws, and avoiding taxes and even wanting to secede from the nation. Nope...nothing in common with the progressive cause.
But maybe you are not really a progressive if you feel you have something in common with them.

(57,936 posts)Bundy led an armed resistance to a legitimate government action confirmed as legitimate by court decisions.
The Occupy movement was careful to demonstrate without guns or weapons.
The glass-breaking was not done on an Occupy site. Whether it was done by anyone really associated with the Occupy movement is questionable.
Bundy spouts off about things he does not understand.
