Obama greeted by Emperor and Empress of Japan.

Basic translation:

Japan's Emperor and Empress have greeted US President Barack Obama in a welcome ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

Obama arrived in Japan on Wednesday evening.

He is the first president to visit as a state guest in 18 years.

Obama arrived at the palace on Thursday morning in his presidential sedan, and exchanged greetings with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.

Crown Prince Naruhito, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Cabinet ministers also took part in the ceremony at the front garden. Participants listened to the US and Japanese national anthems before an honor guard of the Ground Self-Defense Force performed a salute to Obama.

Later at the Audience Room in the palace, the Emperor and Empress held a meeting with Obama.
