The fact is, demographics are against them. Their audience tends to be older, that audience is dying off and the younger population tends to be liberal (as least, on social issues).

Have you ever wondered why the Supremes (5-4) (Rep-Dem) agreed to open the flood gates for elections by removing limits on contributions? Think they might be have been paid off? According to Cenk, billionaires are buying off the idiots above to spread their RW lies and propaganda. Why not go all the way and let's slide Roberts and Scalia a few bucks to lean a little bit further to the right? Although I have no proof to substantiate this claim, I certainly would not doubt it is going on. 90% of Americans know what they did was wrong in lifting the caps, and no one questioned it. Cenk just proved that the Koch brother have bought these 3 idiots above. Hey, if you have hundreds of billions of dollars and nothing to do with it, why not rig elections, get the far right talk show hosts to side with you by corrupting peoples minds, AND get the SC on our side. They've tried every dirty rule in the book and lost 2 elections to a black man. This infuriates them to no end. So these cry babys will try anything to get their way, and it appears money is on their side. Someone smarter than I once said "Money is the root of all evil". I believe it. If they lose this next election, the GOP is toast, and they know it. So why not go all the way? Pull out all the stops and give it one last try. We've seen corruption in politics over the years on both sides, so I would not put it past these dirty bastards to try to control the world.

Just a thought.

The show is the ad. The content of Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity IS the ad. Cable news networks sell access to audience and that may not be the most profitable part of a business like NewsCorp but the ability to steer public opinion provides the opportunity to influence policy and THAT's where the money comes from.

Are these shows going away? Yes and no, mostly no. They dropped Beck and Limbaugh is on the ropes but the PTB will demand better, more effective mouthpieces. There are plenty of potential show hosts where those guys came from. Fox News has one of the oldest audiences in TV, averaging around 68 years-old so a standard play in TV is to replace your hosts with younger hosts. Get people that look like the audience you want to attract.

And there is another dynamic at play here: LW audience members will watch RW hosts and content but RW audiences will not watch or talk about left-leaning shows (assuming there are any). What passes for LW media is simply stuff like Cenk, TDS and Colbert but mostly these shows obsess with Fox News and other RW outlets. They only play defense and never really put points on the board. Watching TDS is like watching Fox News with a comedian sitting next to you. Funny but YOU ARE STILL WATCHING FOX NEWS.

There will never be major mainstream left leaning media until audiences demand it. By filling our time talking about RW media we waste any chance we had to put OUR OWN message out. We make Fox News more relevant and more powerful by obsessing about it and repeating all the nasty things they say. WE keep Fox News front and center at the expense of media that would better serve OUR interests.

Gallup polls show that Dem watch more MSM and have twice as much trust in it as Repubs. So "No", for the near future RW media is not going away because we on the Left seem to think that watching and refuting Fox is the same thing as having LW media. We are all defense and no offense media-wise:

I have a few friends that are LW and watch FAUX. They claim they do it to watch their stupidity and then use it against them in the blogesphere. They also claim to do it to "see what they're up to" to try to stay one step ahead of them. I guess to build a counter attack on the their RW friends. I don't get it and never will. Personally, I can't watch FAUX. It makes me sick.

groundwork repetition necessary to create their alternative realities and enable their hypocrisy.

fox is there to put visual icing on the lie turd pie that is the right's most effective weaoon- classic psyops.

considering the time lost on global warming ignoring rw radio has been the biggest political mistake in history.

as long as that rw radio monopoly goes unchallenged THEY dominate messaging. they can short circuit any left messaging they want. their think tanks propagandists watch for progress and design counter messaging, distortions, attack the messenger, etc., and the left then plays catch up AGAIN.

until the left gets serious about rw talk radio good luck with any messaging from the left.

that is the tragedy of ignoring rw radio the last 25 years.

any attention to this massively successful propaganda op is GOOD. the rush boycott is one of the most effective moves from the left in decades because it is, even as specialized as it is, beginning to expose and weaken the bastards. they used to be able to use those ad dollars to pay for the 1200 stations and run the propaganda for free and the right could pretend to be satisfying market forces. the boycott is probably responsible fr a big part of the recent record gender gap that helped keep romney out of the white house. remember how close it was after the first debate and the MSM piled on obama with total bullshit analysis, following the volume from rw media, led by rw radio?

it used to be free advertising for GOP/Rove/Koch/ALEC. now not so free.

ANY attention to rw radio is the best activism going on for ALL progressive issues.

you want to message- fix rw radio first so we don't keep wasting time.

here's and eg of how rw radio works for gov walker , and suggestions for how to challenge talk radio:

That they folded. I loved listening to their shows... but a few of them are still around, like Randi Rhodes, although her show is not on for very long..an hour maybe? One of my favorite local hosts was Bernie Ward... but he made the mistake of dealing with child pornography and went to prison and ruining his career in the process. KGO Radio is not so progressive as much, any longer. They have gone middle of the road. I can't even listen to them any longer. When corporations own the radio waves.. we are bound to get pure propaganda .. The internet is the only way now to find our brand of politics.

stink tanks.

prior to 2008 their material has always come from and is coordinated by people working for and getting salaries from those think tanks.

i really doubt limbaugh used any of his money to pay for that, it made his lazy " the free market solves all" theology life easier.

limbaugh has quoted heritage foundation for many years before 2008 and used their material and how many man hours went into his prep work. but i can't remember these guys pushing/selling these stink tanks before obama and doing fund drives before that.

Why did the network brass assassinate Howard Beale?

Howard Beale had become a ratings disaster who was sucking revenue out of the network. However, corporate CEO Arthur Jensen (played by Ned Beatty) felt that Beale was delivering to the public the message that Jensen wanted delivered: democracy is dead, little people do not matter and corporate hegemony is the natural order of the cosmos. As long as Howard Beale delivered that message, Arthur Jensen would not take him off the air even if it bled the network dry.

Is the Right wing radio/media on the way out?

The question should be "Why isn't Right Wing Radio and Media on the way out"

Answer: because Right Wing apparatchiks (organizations/businesses/churches/think-tanks/wealthy individual nut jobs are "propping up their scaffolds.

Solution: Media Activism, which includes a direct boycott campaign of goods and services both advertisers AND the broadcaster, including a termination of CABLE subscriptions.

STOP VIEWING CNN/MSNBC/FOX etc. make it a campaign that reaches every corner of this contentinent and beyond.

Radio commentators such as, Ed Shultz, Steph Miller, Thom Hatmann, Mike Malloy, Bill Press, Mark Thompson, and Media Matters are worth paying for a subscription to SirusXM. With that said, It would be nice to see Randi Rhodes get a spot on the station (channel 127), as well. Hannity, Beck, and Limpballs can all go get bent.
