Stephen Colbert did a Nebraska bank commercial

http://www.omaha.com/article/20140410/GO/140419826/1181#stephen-colbert-did-a-nebraska-bank-commercial

By Micah Mertes / World-Herald staff writer Published Thursday April 10, 2014

This is a long-ago (2011!) uncovered video, but it seems appropriate to bring it back out today.

Colbert, who will replace David Letterman as "The Late Show" host, started small like almost everybody else. Here he is at some unspecified time -- maybe the late '90s? -- spokesmanning a commercial for Nebraska's FirsTier Bank.

It's not the funniest of ads. Nor a groundbreaking use of green screen. But Colbert's charisma was there all along.

conducting an out-of-character hour long interview format talk with Neil de Grasse Tyson. I think he'll do well at Late Night.

He's all 80s-ed out. And if you've never heard of "Strangers With Candy," just wait!

That bank folded some years ago. There are a few left with the name, but it is not the same ownership. So we know it was before 1996.

Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble did a commercial for cigarettes, fer cryin' out loud.

Actors are voices (and faces) for hire. It's honest work for honest pay.

Others who do or have done commercials: Paul Newman, Kate Mulgrew, Keifer Sutherland, Samuel L. Jackson.

I can't fault them for paying their bills.

He may get away with his biting satire for a few weeks until the emails from the repugs start rolling in then he will be silenced.

Saw him yesterday on CRIMINAL INTENT where he's a master forger who fakes documents and signatures to support his wacky mother who gives away everything he makes to charity. In the show he murders someone. Pointed him out to my wife who said that couldn't be him, but sure enough there he is in the credits. From 2001, I believe.

Clip is having some fun with him - bet Fox uses it though
