(15,438 posts)Otherwise, to hell with the lot of you unethical, loose, and unChristian masses!
He's just a glaring example why Republican voters talk out of the behinds when they claim to vote Republican because of "family values and Christian values". Of course, to then have to admit that they loathe the Democratic Party because of the Blacks, Latinos, and Asians in that Party - all those loathsome "others" - would be admitting to their spoonfed KKK-style racism. They like being "closeted" racists. People just might buy it and believe they are actually reasonable people then.

(21,925 posts)he wouldn't even have to apologize or ask for God's forgiveness. Carrying a gun and shooting someone immediately imparts sainthood and moral values in the Republican religion. If he shot his friend in the face while drunk like Cheney did, he'd even get extra credit.

(45,516 posts)No wonder he's morally bankrupt!
There are lots more republicans who support the medicaid expansion than either side will admit.
This from the link above:
I thought, You know what, Im not going to skirt the issue. Republican, Democrat, it dont matter. Those working poor have paid that money in. That moneys going to Washington. Its their money, he said. For me to say Im against Medicaid expansion makes me the best congressman California and Massachusetts could ever have, because thats where that moneys gonna go.
Its about doing whats right. You keep your people healthy, theyll continue to work. Theyll do better, he said. The moneys there. As a business guy, I dont like Gov. Jindal standing up there and trying to use political points to argue that the state cant afford the small fraction it would eventually have to pay to draw down billions in benefits. It dont take Einstein to figure out thats a pretty darn good return on your investment.
Not many Republicans acknowledge the existence of the working poor or that healthy people are a good thing. The dirty South does have lots of voters from both parties who are social conservative and fiscal/economic liberal. Many of them want guns, god, and gays, AND healthcare, education, and fair wages. Tea party spews pure horseshit so loudly and vindictively that other GOP viewpoints are often silenced.

(12,121 posts)Medicaid expansion. Until he spoke some common sense and wanted to help his constituents!

(7 posts)Failings aside, it looks like he really wants to put politics aside and serve his constituents. Other republicans might agree and follow, that's why they have to punish him. Otherwise the whole political dam breaks and ACA becomes as solid as medicare and social security.

(6,928 posts)This video is from a newspaper that endorsed the other candidate in the election. The other candidate was the anointed candidate by Bobby Jindal and the entire Republican establishment who thought they could pull a fast one by getting retiring Congressman Alexander a cushy job in state government if he would step aside and they could elect their chosen candidate.
When the northern Louisiana voters smelled a rat they backed McAllister instead of having a Republican crony shoved down their throats.
As bad as this guy is, he is actually better than the hand-picked Jindal candidate, who the Republican cartel thought they could install by removing the previous congressman.

(6,928 posts)I wasn't making a conclusion, but that is certainly a plausible scenario. At best, it's Republican infighting that has spilled onto the front page.

(8,965 posts)First off, you're a seemingly devout southern politician or televangelist, big on family values. You eventually get caught doing stuff the Bible says you shouldn't, beg for God's forgiveness in public, use your family for pity purposes, persuade your constituents that it's better to vote for a "saved" Republican sinner (aka hypocrite) than any heathen Democrat, and proceed along with your political career as if nothing happened. Works every time. It almost begs the question as to why these people would even need to worry about being careful.
