He does pull knives AFTER the police break their agreement with him and fire a flash bang directly at him, however he is turning around AWAY from the officers and appears to be bending over to lay down when they open fire into his back. Clearly murder.
1:02 Cops says 'booyah' after shooting the guy. How tasteless is that?
Here is the phone number to voice your opinion on this mater to the Mayor's office: Telephone: (505) 768-3000

(3,194 posts)Then after a brief investigation by the police department, they'll be exonerated. Perhaps even given the key to the city by the mayor.
After all, they are cops, and their rights trump yours everyday of the week.

(1 post)Can barely believe this video. I had to find a New Mexico news video on youtube where news anchors were saying he was dead for it to sink in that these over-armed cowards were shooting someone barely conscious in the back.

(8,175 posts)To test his responses. But still...how much damage can a man do when facing away from you? I don't think he was bending over to lay down. If he was going to lay down, he would not have turned away from them first. He would have complied. I'm not sure what he was reaching for...or maybe he was going to put his knife down. I only know that he was not an immediate threat when they shot him in the back with real bullets.
What do you want to bet they thought he was reaching for a gun, but found no gun after he was down.
I think cops are let off all the time for someone reaching for some unknown thing, because it "might" be a gun. I don't think that makes it right. They just seem to be a little too trigger happy these days.

(13,382 posts)to just lay down on a cactus or sharp rocks and was hesitating to find a place to lay down? deadly force was not warranted!

(1,281 posts)This is the way Republican police forces cut spending on welfare . A homeless man to a Republican
has no more value than dog . Rather than put him asleep at a dog pound they just shoot him enough times
to make sure he is dead . Problem solved .

(33,982 posts)Holy shit. Unbelievable. Those 'bean bags' are full of lead shot. You pump three rounds of that into someone and they don't move...
The flash bang was clearly dumb. The two shots from the rifle were unwarranted, the guy was laying down.
The man needed help, not 2 rounds of .223 through the back.

(8,401 posts). . . and I say that as someone who has two nephews who are cops (one a municipal cop, the other a Florida State Trooper). I nearly caused a family row at a family gathering last summer, when I had the temerity (!) to suggest that not only am I resolutely opposed to capital punishment, I am just as opposed (perhaps more so) to a two-tier justice system where those who are convicted of murdering cops are singled out for capital punishment when others are not, because I think it sends a message that the lives of law enforcement are somehow more valuable than those they serve. When it comes to my nephews, I hope, and I certainly want to believe, that they discharge their duties ethically and professionally. But, any time a discussion of these issues comes up, I'm sorry to say they're like every other cop in defending and/or making excuses for misconduct.
And of course, the problem will continue unabated, and indeed will get worse, so long as juries, in the rare instances that cops are charged and tried, continue to acquit them (as they almost always do).

(1,043 posts)I cannot imagine it's a good thing to have them patrolling the streets. This is scary. Extremely sick individuals.
