Dr. Jill Tarter is one of the leading scientists in the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI). Here she offers a brilliant view of our place in the Universe, as well as the possibilities for discovering extra-terrestrial intelligence.

After you've listened to Dr. Tarter, listen to Carl Sagan reciting his Pale Blue Dot speech. Even if you've heard it before, it's worth listening to again.

From us it will mean only two things, that they have used that technology to make their world a better place or to destroy themselves.
And we will follow those two choices too...we have the technology now to make this world a wonderful place to live, or we can utterly destroy it, and we are closer to the later than the former.
