Papantonio: Time Is Right For Populist Movement

This segment originally aired on the February 23rd, 2014 episode of Ring of Fire on Free Speech TV. The number one problem with American politics is that corporations have too much control over our elected officials. It doesn't matter which party you're talking about either -- corporate America has paid off almost everyone. So it's time for something new. Ring of Fire's Mike Papantonio and best-selling author Jim Hightower discuss what America needs to overcome corporate political corruption.

I've been thinking it is time for populism to rear its head. It seems that some of our elected officials want the dollars of influence, and my one vote. Then the policy followed gives preference to the influence dollar. Not the policy that would benefit the individual. Populism is/should be coming back.

"You Didn't Build That."

I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever,’” she said. “No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.

“You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear: you moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.

“Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

for West Texas farmers.

Texas Congressioal Republicans received millions in farm subsidies. http://www.democraticunderground.com/107813272

No West Texas farmers seemed to be alarmed enough to start a farm cooperative (yet). Smaller farms survive on credit, until Corporate Ag wants the property if the small farmer can not pay its loans off ever so often.
