New Rule: Maher Begs America to Give Up Pennies, the Drug War, and Duck Dynasty for the New Year

Bill Maher ended his first show of the new year with some resolutions for America, ranging from the War in Afghanistan to a more productive Congress to Duck Dynasty, especially to “stop hanging onto stupid stuff long after it’s relevant just because it’s tradition” like the penny, the Drug War, Daylight Savings Time, and having two Dakotas.

I think Wyoming needs to merge with some other state--they've got two Senators too, and no frigging people! OTOH, California, with a massive population and the 6th largest economy in the world, also only has two.

Just doesn't seem quite right to me. I realize it worked well back in the old days, but nowadays the Senate does have a challenge dealing with constituents, particularly in very large states.

Merge North and South Dakota into a single state. Rename it Lakota. Build a new capital city at the edge of the Badlands called Crazy Horse (or Tȟašúŋke Witkó, I like the Lakota word myself). And declare the anniversary of the Battle of Greasy Grass a state holiday, and the anniversary of the massacre at Wounded Knee a state day of morning.

Wyoming rep gets one vote because it's the he/she represents the least amount of people. Those representing more people would get 1 plus a fraction vote. That way each person would be represented equally.

It seems to me that each US representative's vote should have the same weight. You would probably see more realistic outcomes reflecting the public's wishes. Right now red states are overly represented in the House. I don't ever expect something like this to ever happen though.

The GOP state legislators create bullshit districts that "cut out" all the "blaaaaaaah" folks (to quote Santorum) and leave them fractured to diminish their political power.

I'd like to see rules where redistricting should prioritize keeping COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION intact, rather than seeing districts that include a slice of this town, a slice of that town, and a slice of another town. It sucks and way too many states do this.

If it hadn't been one of the original it would have been even more of a joke.

Let's face it. The ONLY reason we stopped at 50 is because it's a nice round number. If we make it 51 then SOMEONE (I'm looking at YOU Mexico and Canada) is getting invaded. Oh, and Puerto Rico is a given.

I didn't know who they were , until I read about them here in DU. Now I found out that several of my acquaintances do watch the show, and seem to enjoy it too.

By the time McCrory gets through there won't be any need for two Carolinas. May as well merge.
