Nature gives us so many ready made and costless solutions to our problems and we take them for granted or otherwise shun them entirely in favor of costly, high tech innovations. Do not get me wrong, my first love is science and technology. However I think we should do what we can do to make life easier, not to make ourselves feel like 'achievers'.
Stem Cell Research could provide a whole vista of new medical science in the field of Regenerative Medicine. While it wouldn't be as inexpensive as planting trees to get rid of extra CO2 I am staunchly a supporter of Stem Cell Research.
Which of course the GOP won't let us have! They cite 'moral' concerns over Stem Cell Research blabbing that the greatest source of Stem Cells is in embryonic tissue. Which if course, it is. How ever this is not the ONLY source. A Japanese researcher a few years ago found a way to dedifferentiate mature skin cells into Stem Cells and a researcher in California found that powdered Extracellular Matrix contains an enzyme that stimulates Stem Cell production after the fact.
So what is the real reason that the GOP fears Stem Cell Research? Is it because they fear it will give women an added incentive for abortion, maybe selling their embryos afterwards? This is highly unlikely. Hundreds or indeed thousands of early term abortions take place every year anyway-why not take the bad and make something good come out of it?
The real reason is that Stem Cell Research just MIGHT hold the promise of CURES to diseases that we currently rely on cyclic treatments to help. And as everyone knows, the word 'cure' is a blasphemy in the halls of Big Pharma...
