(5,648 posts)guaranteed health care, pension, and a month's vacay....in other words, things workers demand and take for granted in Europe, and they would change their tune.

(13,622 posts)talking about the election. By looking at them, you would not believe any of them would vote for Obama. One is retired, one a business owner and the other is a rancher. All three said they didn not like any of the Republican candidates. The rancher said he would probably vote for Obama, the businessman maybe and the retired guy didn't say.
I would suspect all three would vote Republican if there was a reasonable candidate. That has got to be encouraging. It's too bad that Idaho will most likely go Republican anyway.

(2,682 posts)"The south will rise again"? That was 147 years ago. It's long past time to get over it.
What this really shows is that the poorest state in the nation has no funds for education, health care, or other services provided by other states. Without a populace with a standard education, businesses do not wish to locate there as they would be unable to find suitable labor skills. In any business venture there are only so many unskilled labor jobs, the rest require at least a standard high school education. And without jobs, there is very little hope for people to earn their way up and out of poverty. So they remain poor, uninformed, and lack the resources to learn anything else. So the question is, how does the federal government step in where the state government has so woefully failed? Grants for education wind up in the hands of the establishment and as we all know, the "trickle down" theory never has and never will work.
There are so many things that need to be done but the bottom line is, the people need to be willing to DO IT and need to demand that their state provide the resources! EDUCATION!!!!!
