"White Hands": Japanese medical sex therapists for the disabled

This is a very interesting video by VICE. It is about a company called "White Hands" that provides sexual stimulation for disabled patients that suffer from cerebral palsy and the like.

The worker herself speaks in very polite and honorific Japanese about the patients. She is clearly educated and has an appreciation for importance of her work and sees the humanity of her patients.

This movie is based on the concept here, and despite being a romantic comedy, is actually based on real people/events. (And then the comedy/tragedy turned up a notch or two)

beings as nearly every human is. I'm happy that somebody has considered it, and I'm a bit ashamed that it had to be spelled out for me. On the plus side the video provided a boost to my empathy levels.

Why did I never think of this?

We live in a shamed society...shamed by the natural processes of life. I hope it doesn't take too long to evolve.

They are providing a service to people like any other professional. Sex and the urges associated with it are one of those fundamental urges we all have - kind of like eating and sleeping.

I don't know why we as a society look down on sex work in general. It shouldn't be anything to be ashamed of so long as the person is doing it on their own free will and not forced into it via a pimp, drug addition, or the like.

These people, in my mind, are doing a very noble cause and are providing comfort and support for the disabled. As a result, I'm sure the disabled person's quality of life is greatly improved.

Or would be forced into the margins of the truly unlawful, like dealing in supplying underage people for non-consensual acts.

Pimps are the organized crime element of prohibitions, just like alcohol, drugs, etc, whenever you take a socially acceptable/common thing, label it a 'sin' and criminalize it.

In areas with legalized prostitution sex trafficking and exploitation are still prevalent.

Read Rachel Lloyd's memoir Girls Like Us about being a child prostitute in Germany.

Legality Leads to More Trafficking

http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2012/04/19/is-legalized-prostitution-safer/legalizing-prostitution-leads-to-more-trafficking

The argument that legalizing prostitution makes it safer for women just hasn’t been borne out in countries implementing full legalization. In fact, legalization has spurred traffickers to recruit children and marginalized women to meet demand. Amsterdam, long touted as the model, recently started recognizing rates of trafficking into the country have increased and is beginning to address the enormous hub of trafficking and exploitation that it's created.

And have they decided that criminalizing is the fix? NO.

Bad people will exploit any thing if they have a chance to, legal or illegal. Take alcohol and weed, and political ignorance. Just as there are those that sell tainted food or medicines. Should we because of this, criminalize these businesses as well?

The vast majority of legal sexual encounters are positive experiences for all those involved, and indeed all human beings and especially males have a medical need for sexual release. Any one with a cursory knowledge of human sexuality and urology will understand that. Enough of the moral arguments against this. Independent women who decide to engage in this with independent men are not exploited. Leave us be

With sex work, you also have to consider that some of the workers are in the business to support drug habits or because of pimps. Now, I think the best way to deal with that is to legalise prostitution so it can be properly regulated.

So is all good.

You're right, too many sex workers are physically abused, but how much more fortunate is the single mom who works herself to death under a verbally I've had coworkers in various organizations who wound up having nervous breakdowns because of tyrannical bosses who made their working days a living Hell. Are they not victims, too?
