(5,082 posts)Rand Paul sucks and this makes it even more obvious. I am sick of those who bring Rand Paul and so-called Paul-Bots into every conversation as an excuse to limit liberty but I am way more sick of idiots like Rand Paul who in my opinion really has no political philosophy and carries water for the Right. The guy isn't very bright and basically rode his more thoughtful father's coat-tails to power. Don't get me wrong, I do not support all of Ron Paul's ideas but I wonder sometimes when people attack him as enemy #1 and not Jeb Bush or Bush Sr. or Cheney etc. Paul is right about the wars, constitutional rights, drug wars and the racism from private prisons...he is just a congressman so I'm not afraid of his contorted views on other issues that I disagree with him on(helping others less fortunate). Find me a Democrat who his as vigilant about ending atrocities in the Middle East, ending the drug war, reigning in the Fed, prosecuting bankers etc etc and they will have my full support as guys like Grayson, Russ Feingold, Bernie Sanders, Mark Udoll and Ron Wyden already do. It seems like it's the military industrial complex who is most turned off by Ron Paul and I dont like cheerleading for them whether I disagree or not...that's their job and they seems pretty effective at it. I loved that Ron Paul threw a wrench in the NeoCons agenda and whether or not he took bribes or was a jerk at some point isn't important as I'm sure most of them do. I am more afraid of politicians that push WAR whether they come from our side or their bosses on the Right. Rand will never get far hopefully as he is a straight up Republican and not a smart one at that...he is just filling a vacuum and you know what they say about history...it's about stepping up at the right time and place when the right conditions set already. That's why we need a courageous Grayson type but I'm sure whoever that is would be worried about being assassinated because the power and wealth of those running the show ensures it. I was really upset when Paul Wellstone died...he was the real deal and appealed to may with his good nature and down to earth attitude.

(10,893 posts)when you consider all of these stances (in addition to Libertarians being silent on voter ID laws), one could argue that Democrats have been closer to following the definition of freedom than many of them. In reality, the only type of freedom that Libertarians (and Republicans in general) seem to care about is for corporations and elites; less regulations, no taxes, and the right for employers to discriminate. Oh, and also the freedom of lunatics to buy as many guns as they want and shoot up schools.

(45,319 posts)does not want to be associated with other Republicans for a variety of very good reasons. Unlike Democrats, who say 'I'm a Democrat' Republicans have many alternative names for themselves, 'Tea Party' 'Libertarian' 'Conservative' and they use them when the truth does not play well.

(6,241 posts)that hate the libertarians.
"Libertarians want to return to roughly 1870 A.D. type laws, which is about as conservative as it gets."
"Dopertarians seem unaware that abortion, adultery, and pretty much all of their sexual immorality was strictly regulated in 1870. History is not their forte."
This is from two freepers talking. (Funny now my autocorrect wanted to change 'freepers ' to 'creepers')

(3,539 posts)Freedom from regulation, at least if they hurt the bottom.
Personal liberties such as reproductive choice, sexual orientation are worth nothing if they can be sacrificed for the support/contributions of the religious right.

Flagging gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli brought in Tea Party demi-god Sen. Rand Paul for a campaign event today in Virginia. And Paul warned of a future, presumably helped along by Terry McAuliffe in which science would lead to the destruction of whole classes of non-perfect people ...
Tea party hero Rand Paul warned scientific advancements could lead to eugenics during a Monday visit at Liberty University, looking to boost the political fortunes of fellow Republican Ken Cuccinelli's bid for governor.
During a visit to the Christian school founded by Jerry Falwell, Paul looked to energize conservative supporters by warning that people who are short, overweight or less intelligent could be eliminated through abortion. With one week remaining, Cuccinelli is hoping the joint appearance with the U.S. senator from Kentucky will encourage the far-right flank of his party to abandon third-party libertarian spoiler Robert Sarvis.
"In your lifetime, much of your potential -- or lack thereof -- can be known simply by swabbing the inside of your cheek," Paul said to a packed sporting arena on Liberty's campus. "Are we prepared to select out the imperfect among us?"
Some states ran eugenics programs that sterilized those considered defective in the 1900s, though all were abandoned by the 1970s after scientists discredited the idea.

(8,434 posts)It's only in the bag after the votes are counted.
Get your friends, neighbors, and family into the car and go to the voting booths. McAuliffe is another blue dog (insert expletive here) but the alternative is beyond comprehension.
Turnout VA!
