McDonald's likes to set up shop within a half mile of schools all across the country. My gym faces a McDonald's and is directly across the street from our town high school. While on the treadmill I watch kids heading across the crosswalk to grab junk food at lunch and after school. The middle-school kids are a half block away and they line up as well. Too many of them are overweight.
I did a food culture study last year and found McDonald's to heavily use all kinds of additive garbage, and lots of studies link McDonald's with obesity--with the exception of one McDonald's did themselves. And--who can forget what happened to a healthy man who surrendered himself to a McDonald's only diet in "Super-size Me."
So--McDonald's sells toxic garbage that is not healthy to eat, preys on schoolkids, and counsels their underpaid staff to apply for government assistance while the CEO has ordered a new jet. Let's hope they face big-time blow-back.
