Related: About this forumThe Truth about the Original Tea Party
This is an incredibly illuminating video. It shows that the real sore point wasn't that taxes were too high, but that the Tea Act exempted the East India Company from tea taxes. It was a protest against corporate tax subsidies.

(25,984 posts)I wish this had been thrown in the teabaggers' faces more often during their early days. I did my part, however, in pointing out that they were 'useful idiots' for corporate entities who definitely don't have their best interests in mind.

(3,122 posts)... the infrastructure (bus fleets, workshops, advertising) for the modern day "Tea Party".
Their organizing principles: 1) lower taxes on corporations, 2) opposition to universal health care, 3) maintaining tax subsidies for fossil fuels (and suppression of subsidies for renewables), and 4) abolishing direct election of senators by voters.
In other words, the restoration of "taxation without representation" in the United States.
The British East India Company would be mighty proud.
