Related: About this forumGlenn Beck: 'WHAT ABOUT WHITES?!!' - '...Teach Poor Little Indian'
Beck somehow turns discussions about the Washington Redskins franchise name into a litany of how the 'white man' is being trampled over by minorities. Incredibly, Glenn Beck is so paranoid that he manages to turn an attempt at racial sensitivity as a shot across the bow of 'white people'. Even though Bob Costas, a fellow 'white man', is the one articulating the issue's importance.
More ironic is that he mentions Davy Crockett as 'friend of the Indians' who brokered most deals with the Indians... the same Davy who said -- 'I... kin swallow an Injin whole if you butter his head and pin his ears back'. No small irony if you read of Crockett's 'dealings' with Native Americans at the Massacre at Tallasehatchee:
We now shot them like dogs; and then set the house on fire and burned it up with the forty-six warriors in it. I recollect seeing a boy who was shot down near the house. His arm and thigh were broken, and he was so near the burning house that the grease was stewing out on him. In this situation he was still trying to crawl along; but not a murmur escaped him, though he was only about twelve years old...
...It was somehow or other found out that the house had a potato cellar under it, and immediate examination was made, for we were all as hungry as wolves. We found a fine chance of potatoes in it, and hunger compelled us to eat them though I had a little rather not, if I could have helped it, for the oil of the Indians we had burned up the day before, had run down on them and they looked like they had been stewed with fat meat.
This picture of Tennessee Christians eating potatoes cooked in the flames of the Indians burning in the house, and stewed in the grease which had oozed from the Indian bodies is one of the most ghastly incidents furnished by the records of "glorious war."
Some historians have suggested this act approached cannibalism.
________
Yes, Beck sure has his finger on the pulse of bringing all Americans together...

(6,907 posts)"approached???" that is cannibalism. Oh wait, for it to be cannibalism the native Americans would have had to be people, and they didn't consider them that did they.

If only I knew he was a raging bigot assh*le back then.
Where is Crockett's gravesite? He should be dug up and dumped in a Tennessee landfill.

Humans are humans.
Fear is natural, as is the use of logic to rid ourselves of primal and irrational fears.
People who worry about the "other" should think more on what they have in common with the "other". Their racism may not be their fault, but ignoring the solution certainly is.

And that is his good side.

(14,082 posts)From The American Holocaust:
In 1779, George Washington instructed Major General John Sullivan to attack Iroquois people. Washington stated, "lay waste all the settlements around...that the country may not be merely overrun, but destroyed". In the course of the carnage and annihilation of Indian people, Washington also instructed his general not "listen to any overture of peace before the total ruin of their settlements is effected". (Stannard, David E. AMERICAN HOLOCAUST. New York: Oxford University Press, 1992. pp. 118-121.)
In 1783, Washington's anti-Indian sentiments were apparent in his comparisons of Indians with wolves: "Both being beast of prey, tho' they differ in shape", he said. George Washington's policies of extermination were realized in his troops behaviors following a defeat. Troops would skin the bodies of Iroquois "from the hips downward to make boot tops or leggings". Indians who survived the attacks later re-named the nation's first president as "Town Destroyer". Approximately 28 of 30 Seneca towns had been destroyed within a five year period. (Ibid)
I can't vouch for the web site; but I can guarantee that Beck has no idea what he's talking about.

(10,893 posts)come out of the closet already and admit that you're a racist with a deep-seeded hatred for everyone different from you. You can not rightfully continue going on like this and do things like fear-mongering about slavery being established under Obama, or how it is Whites who are being trampled by minorities when it comes to a NFL team's name that is actually derogatory to Natives. Trust me--your followers will still love you for your honesty. Probably no one who would quit listening after hearing someone say something bigoted listen to you in the first place, anyway.

(211 posts)or maybe a bit schitzophrenic on this, because I heard that he also called for the medals of honor from Wounded Knee to be rescinded.
Don't know if it was in support if this effort: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/07/27/557839/-Action-Rescind-Wounded-Knee-Medals-of-Dis-Honor, but I guess he said it.
What's that saying about a broken clock being right a couple of times a day?

He's openly praised the Kochs and attacked those who complained about their influence in America. So I guess we know who wants this kind of think shoved into the heads of Americans and the world.
