http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/10/gabby-giffords-booed-at-gun-show.htmlFormer congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords made her first post-shooting appearance at a gun show over the weekend in upstate New York to call for common-sense gun control and was treated mostly with respect. But not entirely! Because this is America. "The trio was greeted by light applause when introduced at the news conference, but some people booed from across the room," the AP reports. Who says this country can't engage rationally?
Giffords spoke anyway, telling anyone who would listen, "We must never stop fighting" to end gun violence. She pumped her fist for impact. "Fight! Fight! Fight! Be bold! Be courageous!"

(12,882 posts)Being disabled by taking a bullet in the head from some deranged ass hole hardly gives Gabby the right to call for gun controls. Only those who are "packin" are qualified to say anything. Sick bastards!

(45,984 posts)I guess if she wanted to be popular with this crowd, she should have gotten out of the way of the bullets. It's obvious to these macho men that she intentionally allowed herself to be shot in the head so Obama could take away their guns. "What a victim," they're saying.

(5,364 posts)I've always owned guns, mostly rifles, and enjoy shooting but a lot of people I've known for years, decades even, have seemed the past few years to make being a gun owner the center of their sense of being. Some of them were even democratic voters. Now it's guns guns guns with them. It's all they ever talk about. You've got to be around them to believe it...hear it in their voices and see it in their body language. They've become single issue guns voters and are quite annoyed with me that I'm not. Of couse they're even madder at me since they've moved politically right and I've moved politically left, but that's a story for another time.

(5,364 posts)Most are, from what I know and see them do, the type to skim newspaper front pages or watch 10-15 minutes a day of CNN ( nearly as bad as faux IMO ) talking heads chitter-chatter and think of themselves as informed. In other words, they're ignorant and unread. They just feed off of each other's "they're gonna take our guns" paranoia and will vote for whatever party or candidate soothes them the most in that regard.

(12,336 posts)The people who booed could not go into outer space like Commander Kelly. They don't have the courage or intelligence. And they could not serve our country like Ms. Giffords because they care only about themselves, unlike her. And I sort of wonder if their wives took a bullet to the head and fought like hell to get back to some sort of normalcy, whether they would unflinchingly stand by their woman like Commander Kelly has done. Gutless cowards, every one of the people who booed. Get up in the Commander's face sometime and see what happens. I suspect it would get ugly.
