James Baldwin, in pursuing ideas related to the real truth of the 'civilizing mission,' is one of America's greatest writers. He is always good, beautiful and true, particularly on the occasion of this conflicted 'holiday' weekend,' We are lucky to have so much video memory of him.


A good point among many: "...As for the influences [of their literary movement]...in short, done by black people and that work done by most black people, because most white historians...are so busy justifying, that they can only lie about it..."

I read "Giovanni's Room" years ago and was hooked on Baldwin's work, so read all the rest. He was an amazing author and I wish he'd written more.
