Italian designer Gabriele Diamanti (@GabDiamanti) has invented Eliodomestico,
an eco-distiller running on solar power, to provide safe drinking-water for people in developing countries: a very simple way to produce healthy, bacteria-free water.
Eliodomestico is an open source project.
Winner at Core77 Design Award 2012 - social impact category;
Finalist at the Prix Émile Hermès 2011 competition.

(6,145 posts)The fact this device is open source and can be produced locally is also a great feature.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]The eliodomestico has been all over the web for 2 years now and claiming "open source" availability for plans. However, I have yet to be able to find actual plans available anywhere or anyone claiming to have actually manufactured any for sale.
I've seen people in comments sections begging for plans or a source to help friends and/or family in developing countries or areas beset by conditions that have contaminated their water, and no one has ever answered with schematics or a source for the finished product.
A fantastic idea, well executed, but still remarkably unavailable. That's very frustrating.

What we need are detailed schematics and instructions -- better yet, someone who has actually started manufacturing the thing at a decent price.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I've already seen most of what you've posted and have investigated trying to rig some of the other designs shown, though the eliodomestico seems to be the cleanest, simplest, most practical design around.
What I'm really looking for, I guess (as mentioned in my last post), is something with detailed drawings, a parts list, and instructions for dummies -- or, better yet, a complete kit or finished product similar to the pictures for those of us without workshop or much in the way of tools. An IKEA version, if you will. Plenty of other people have been asking for the same thing in comments on various sites.
None of these things on line so far actually offer dimensions, how/where to get/make the various parts, etc. There's too much left to trial and error. I haven't rechecked YouTube lately, though, so maybe there's something new there.
