Related: About this forumAlan Grayson on the house floor - What do you have a higher opinion of... "Congress or Hemorrhoids"
...gets interesting at around the 6 minute mark.
Allan Grayson reads the Public Policy Poll on the floor which asked a series of questions trying to gauge support for Congress compared with government-run institutions such as the Internal Revenue Service, health problems such as toenail fungus, cockroaches and dog poop.
The findings may surprise some lawmakers in Washington, who are deadlocked over how to reopen the federal government after eight days of shutdown.
Voters say they have a higher opinion of hemorrhoids than Congress, by 53% to 31%. More than seven in 10 voters say they view jury duty more favorably than Congress, which musters only 18% support in that comparison. Even toenail fungus rates 3 percentage points higher Congress.
Overall, voters in PPP's telephone poll gave Congress an 8% approval rating. Nearly nine in 10 voters, or 86%, say they disapprove of Congress which is in line with a recent CNN survey.
"Congress having an 8% approval rating tells us one thing about how unhappy voters are," said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. "But it's even more telling that voters have a lower opinion of it than annoyances like the DMV and jury duty, health issues like hemorrhoids, and even witches."

(40,416 posts)In other words, imaginary magical people -- or evil, sinister magical ones, depending whether you're a Harry Potter fan or medieval church official -- are more popular than congress critters. I bet that vampires would be, too.
I will also bet that zombies would be on the top of popularity.
They eat brains, you know, which possibly explains some things. I wonder if there's any connection.
Nah! Can't be... But who knows...

The Chair said all of those results weren't proof,...so by implication Republicans take pride in rating below cockroaches and hemorrhoids.

(71,611 posts)I can deal with hemmorhoids daily and get relief. I can only deal with Congress every two years, have to depend on others to help, and rarely get relief.

(1,805 posts)when he was on the Bill Maher show last Friday. He was relatively quiet (for him). I thought for sure he and Mr. TeaParty would have gotten into it. Although Bill hardly lets anyone get a word in. He's been kind of annoying lately - at least to me. I think he needs some new writers.

Hemorrhoids, toenail fungus, dog poop, cockroaches, & pot-holes are regarded more positively than congress.

(12,882 posts)money-flavored Kool-Ade that the Rethugs do. This allows his brain to think with objective reason and ration - something the other side lives in mortal fear of. We get to SEE that fear in how Grayson was boxed in with rhetoric. Put a "box" over the poo, and it simply doesn't exist!

(4,106 posts)Not only has the dignity of the House been called into question it's virtually non existent. See they have to actually start throwing dog poo before they care.
